Ark-19: The Enemy Within

The local Solar System. From the Sun to Earth's orbit and the Moon. And from there all the way into the outer regions of the system beyond Neptune and the dwarf planets beyond it.

Storage

Prowl smirked when Smokescreen offered to help. Some help was better than none.

"Thanks. I have a plan to jam the Decepticons communications, since they'll be underwater and audio reception will be terrible." he explained. "Additionally, the water will slow down any warheads fired. If we jam the Decepticons frequencies, they won't be able to coordinate and will have to rely on laser-fire, giving us the advantage."

Indeed, much of the Decepticon's weaponry would be inhibited underwater and where the Decepticons relied on brute strength, the Autobots could counter in resourcefulness. This was the perfect place for them to turn the momentum in their favor. It was just a matter of everyone having the motivation.

it was then he received a response from Ironhide. After hearing Ironhide saying not to bring anything if it was too heavy, Prowl paused. of course it wasn't a matter of weight as much as abundance of what he needed and he was only one robot. Then again, eh could sense some frustration in the veteran's words. He knew Ironhide for quite some times and there were few things that could short his circuits: Decepticons, waiting, and young arrogant robots in need of lessons in subordination. Given that there were no Decepticons present and that a mission was about to get underway, Prowl could guess it had something to do with Hex. Prowl hadn't forgotten that the young Autobot still had to be dealt with for leaving the ship without authorization. He hoped Prime could take care of that while he was away. One thing was certain, it was not Ironhide that the youngster need worry about grinding.

Despite Ironhide's response, Prowl still felt it necessary to bring jamming equipment. however, he did suggest running a suggesting by Ironhide, one he was certain the veteran would agree with. he opened the link again in response.

>>"I'll bring what I can Ironhide. Smokescreen is helping me out. However, I recommend we go ahead and send anyone already at the bounce platform on ahead. The earlier we have our guys there, the greater the advantage we'll have in securing the energon."<< he suggested.

He grabbed a few more arrays and held them in his arms turning his attention to Smokescreen. "I'll take there. There should be a central jamming array inside that container. I'll see about attaching it to the ship once we're on site." he told Smokescreen. Of course, he wasn't going to leave without him.

Orbital Bounce Platform

Brawn traversed the corridors until he reached the Orbital Bounce platform. he was one bounce away from some action. H just hoped there were plenty of Decepticons for him to bash, especially for Bumblebee.

Stepping up onto the platform, he waited, hoping everyone else wasn't going to take too long.

'Strike listened carefully Optimus response. "Understood Sir, I'll be on my way." The black mech walked towards the door and left the command center behind.

Corridors

Blackstrike was running, but not towards the Orbital Bounce Platform, but to his work station in the computers lab. "I should get all the equipment I can, you never know when you're going to need them."

Computers Lab.

The doors of the lab slid open as Blackstrike approached them. When he entered the lab, he walked to his work station and grabbed some equipment. "This should be enough for the mission." After grabbing all the necessary stuff, he walked out of the lab and headed to the Orbital Bounce Platform.

Orbital Bounce Platform

When Blacktrike entered, he expected the place to be full of 'bots, but only one single bot was there, a minibot. He remembered seeing the 'bot somewhere else but he didn't remembered his name. He didn't like having much friends, but introducing himself wouldn't hurt him. He walked near the minibot and raised his hand. "My name is Blackstrike, but you can call me 'Strike, I'm a engineer and Optimus assigned me to this mission." The black mech just stood there waiting for a response.

Smokescreen nodded as the military strategist laid out his plan to jam the Decepticons’ frequencies. “Sounds like a good plan, Prowl. It should definitely give us an advantage out there just as long as Soundwave doesn’t show up. Then we might have a problem.” The Decepticon Communications Officier rarely went on missions with his comrades, but it did happen on occasion like at Area 51. And since Blaster was involved in the current situation, it was more than likely that Soundwave would show up to face his communications rival.

Smokescreen then turned his attention to the container with the central jamming array. The diversion expert grabbed the container off of the shelf and peered inside. “Yeah, the array is in here. We’re good to go.” The red and blue mech then turned and made his way out of the storage facility.

Orbital Bounce Platform

Hardhead entered the room and immediately walked over to where Brawn and Blackstrike were standing. The veteran wasn't familiar with the black mech so he only regarded 'Strike with a simple glance before looking over at the tough minibot on the bounce pad. “So, you ready to bust up some ‘cons, Brawn? I sure know I am. I haven’t been on this world for too long so this’ll be my first real action I’ve seen here. Those ‘cons won’t know what hit them.”

Shotblur paused for a moment. He had overheard his name mentioned from the Corridors, but...he wasn't exactly clear on why. On the other hand, he, among the other Autobots, had heard Blaster over the comm. This would evidently mean a rescue was needed.

Eventually, the recon mech pieced it all together and realized he would need to go to the Orbital Bounce Platform to take part in the mission. Instead of waiting around for confirmation as he usually would, he rushed to where he believed he was needed.

Storage

As Prowl made his way out of the storage bay and towards the Orbital Bounce Platform, he decided to address Smokescreen's concern about Soundwave.

"I'm actually counting on that." he told Smokescreen. "And I expect we'll get a few good hits in before the Decepticons figure out we've got them jammed. Either way that might shift Soundwave's priorities, giving us a little more time, especially if they want that energon. As for his minions, I have Jazz picking up a few things in the armory."

After what happened on the Oil Platform, Prowl was wanting to make up for the loss. If Soundwave wanted that intel in the ship, he was going to have to fight for it.

Orbital Bounce Platform

Brawn's attention was diverted by the arrival of the newcomer, Blackstrike. He had never encountered this particular Autobot before, but still, anymore help was welcome in his optics.

"The name's Brawn." he said, as he held out his hand in a gesture of greeting. "Pleasure to meet ya Strike!"

It was only a mere second later that they were interrupted by Hardhead, who looked ready for battle. Brawn liked that attitude. Hopefully they could make good use of it and drive those Decepticons off this time.

"As ready as I'll ever be Hardhead." He replied. "My gears are grinding and my circuits are sizzling to give those Decepti-chops a piece of my mind."

Smokescreen was relieved and happy to hear that Prowl had already considered the possibility of Soundwave’s involvement on the upcoming mission and that he was actually counting on it, as well. Smokey should have known that the military strategist would be on top of his game. It was Prowl’s job to think of all the possible scenarios of a battle and he did it well. “Looks like you got everything covered. Between what we have here and the stuff Jazz is picking in the armory, we should be well prepared for whatever the ‘cons throw at us.”

The diversion expert then rounded a corner and approached the doors to the bounce pad.

Orbital Bounce Platform

Hardhead chuckled at Brawn’s very poetic response. “I hear ya, little buddy. And I’ll give ‘em several thousand pieces of shards from my shatterblasters to boot! There won’t be enough left of the ‘cons to put in a CR chamber after that! Ha ha!”

The doors then slid open and Smokescreen entered the room still carrying the main array. The red and blue mech walked over to the bounce pad and gently set the metal box down. He then straightened himself up and nodded at the other ‘bots that had already arrived. Not everyone was there yet, but that would soon change. The quicker they all got to the downed ship and secured the energon the better. The last thing they wanted was for the ‘cons to arrive at the underwater site first and get their troops entrenched around the ship. If that happened it would be very hard to dislodge them.

Smokescreen then noticed Blackstrike standing nearby amongst the assembled Autobots. ‘Strike was an old friend from way back before the great war had even begun. It had been a long while since the diversion specialist had last seen the engineer. Smokey smiled and approached the black mech, patting him on the shoulder. “Hey, Strikey! I didn’t know you were being reassigned here. Good to see you again. How long has it been? Seems like forever since we last sat down together for an energon drink.”

'Strike listened Brawn's response, waiting a opportunity to speak. "Nice to meet you too, Brawn." It was only an astrosecond later that they were interrupted by a gold and green 'bot, the 'bot regarded a glance to Blackstrike, wich 'Strike responded with a nod. Blackstrike listened as the two 'bots talked with each other, but he decided not to say anything, he didn't know the two 'bots much and he didn't have anything constructive to say. He decided to check his weaponry and equipment for the upcoming mission. He was so focused in his task that didn't notice that other 'bot had entered the platform until the other 'bot talked to him.

"Smokey!!, how you doing bro?? Yeah I was reassigned here, I love this planet." Smokey was a old friend of 'Strike. The black mech only knew a few 'bots, and even fewer call him their friend, but Smokey was above. Smokey, like Air Raid and a few other bots were something else to 'Strike, they were like brothers. "It's has been much time, almost like a lifetime." The black mech was happy to see his old friend. "Don't worry about that drink, when we return from this mission, we can have one, like the old times before this madness started, before that day."

Orbital Bounce Platform

Ironhide stood behind the glass at the controls for the bounce platform and watched his team arrive in dribs and drabs. It appeared that Prime had added another 'bot to the mission. Either that, or Blackstrike had just volunteered and decided to show up. A lot of bots would have checked on that - Ironhide didn't bother. The way he figured things, more Autobots meant more firepower and a better chance of completing the mission successfully. Besides, he was never one to turn away someone that was ready to kick some 'con tailpipe.

A light on the status board lit up indicating an incoming message. The old 'bot grinned in anticipation - that would be Hound with the coordinates.

>>This is Hound to Autobot HQ. I've located the vessel, sending co-ordinates now. Be adviced, its not in the safest of location, and there might be Energon leakage.<<

And sure enough, coordinates followed. Ironhide had just opened his mouth to speak and let everyone in the bounce platform room know what was up when he received a comm from Prowl. For once, he and the strategist were thinking along the same lines, and that was beyond rare. Prowl was logical and cold to the point of necrosis, while Ironhide was the epitome of emotion.

"Sounds like a plan Prowl. Ah'm making the announcement now," he transmitted back, then clicked on the shipwide PA and announced, "Aw right guys, we got coordinates from Hound. Ah'm sendin' everyone here at the bounce platform now, and lockin' in the coordinates. Everyone else get yer chassis in gear and get down here pronto and bounce ASAP!"

Wasting no time, he matched words to deed, locked the coordinates so the rest of the team could follow, and activated the platform on a one astrosecond countdown. Giving him just enough time to join his fellow Autobots on the platform before the silvery light whisked them away to the gulf.

Incoming Transmission

>>Hex this is Blaster. Me and the boys are fine. We used the emergency bounce platform on the freighter and got dumped somewhere in Mississippi. I can't bounce from here... there are humans in the vicinity, so it looks like I'm going to need a ride back to base if you want to come and get me. I've picked up a signal from some of the human satellites to get my exact location. I'll attach coordinates. Don't bounce in too close. The local news reports are talking about people seeing a silver light from the sky, so we don't want any more attention. Blaster out.<<

Orbital Bounce Platofrm

Prowl had walked wiht Smokescreen all the way to the Orbital bounce Platform and arrived. Wasting no time, eh equipped himself with the maintenence attachment. He'd hand out the arrays to various Autobots upon arrival. The Decepticons were in for a real surprise once the jamming field was activated. He took note of the advance group going on ahead: himself, Brawn, Smokescreen, Hardhead, a newcomer, Blackstrike, and Ironhide himself.

Ironhide had agreed ot his plan. It would save time for sure. he jsut hoped the Decepticons would fool around in getting prepared. He still needed those net casters that he asked Jazz to get, yet Jazz was falling behind. He'd have to move fast.

Within moments, he found himself and the others engulfed in the light as the gorup left the Ark-19 for their destination.

Jazz thanked Brawn for the input and made his way to the armoury. He’d had plenty of opportunity use the type explosives he had in mind, he just wanted the opinion of a demolitions expert so he didn’t overdo it. The right tool for the job was Jazz’s philosophy when undertaking any mission. Getting burdened with too much equipment decreased mobility and limited his ability to get the job done. The big guns could be left to soldiers like Hardhead. Bots like that seemed to enjoy the task of heavy barrages, to messy a tactic to have the flair that suited Jazz’s style.

In the armoury now, Jazz picked out the net casters that Prowl had asked for, three small and one large. Jazz grinned as he stowed them in the carrying case, thoughts of capturing a few Decepticons off guard with one of these was too amusing to ignore. With that out of the way he set about collecting the supplies to make some shaped charges. A quick estimate based on the size and density of Blaster’s shuttle he figured six strategically placed 50lb charges ought to do it. He grabbed eight detonators, just to be safe, and 300lbs of plasticized high explosive. Carefully stowing the explosive, he made his way to the orbital bounce platform to meet the others.

Orbital Bounce Platform

Jazz ran in and punched up the coordinates saved from the previous bounce. Energizing the equipment he ran up to the platform as the bright light materialized around him. Just like that, he was whisked away from the ark to meet up with his compatriots.

Hex had sat down at one of the terminals and lazily tapped the keys on the keyboard as he listened to the incoming data. He also tapped into the communications array and began to monitor the battle through the soldiers’ communiqués.

After not hearing anything for a few minutes the young mech pushed away from the console and placed his feet up and leaned back. If he had to sit and monitor anything this boring he was going to have to get as comfortable as possible.

Only a few minutes later the communication’s channel lit up. He let out a heavy, annoyed sigh and took his feet off the table and pulled himself closer to the terminal so he could respond to Blaster.

Whatever Blaster may have been thinking, as Hex continued to toy with him despite the peril the other Autobots might be in, it didn't show in his voice when he replied. The communications specialist’s powerful baritone relayed nothing but good humor as transmitted,

As Hex waited for Blaster to give into his demand, he decided to make himself comfortable again. He placed his right leg over the arm of his chair and steepled his fingers. Hex’s grin faded as he heard Blaster’s response. The young mech grit his teeth as he quickly moved his leg off the arm of his chair and placed it on the floor. He then pulled himself closer to the console and angrily punched in the coordinates to the crashed shuttle.

Once the information was inputted Hex initiated the bounce. Unfortunately for Blaster the young bot decided to send the communication’s officer directly into the middle of the fray. Maybe you’ll get lucky and survive. It doesn’t matter to me.

Hex finally activated the orbital bounce process sending Blaster to the battle.

Lore-lock heard the urgent mayday as clearly as every other bot on the ship did. He also remembered how nice pure energon felt. He quickly stowed his weapon and made his way toward the Orbital bounce platform, as that was by far the best and fastest way to go to where the fun was going to be at. If I can help secure that energon, then may-hap this confounded war might be able to be finished sooner than later.

Lore-lock got to the bounce chamber just as Brawn called into the Ark. Hew was surprised to see one pile of energon already there.

Time passed by slowly after Hex had sent Blaster into the middle of the underwater battle in the Gulf. The young mech spent his time afterwards scanning, mostly human television programs. He was sure to keep his activities under the radar as Prime was also in the Command Center.

Optimus Prime kept busy monitoring the airwaves the humans often utilized in case there was any word on activity in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. The Autobot Commander kept his audios alert to Hex’s activities as well. Fortunately he was not involved in anything too compromising.

Hex let out a heavy sigh as he raised his chin off the palm of his hand. He leaned back in his chair and spun around to face the back of Prime’s chair.

“So, how long are these so called ‘Autobot soldiers’ going to take to do this job? Shouldn’t they have contacted us by now? I mean, if they’re as good as you think they are this should have been over with.”

Hex cracked a wide grin as he waited for Prime to respond. After a moment of quite; Optimus slowly turned to face the youngster. The larger mech stood from his chair and made his way over to Hex.

“Hex, you’ve been with the Autobots for some time. I know you don’t trust me, I accept that, but I urge you to trust the other Autobots as much as you do Axle.”

The broad smile etched on Hex’s face quickly faded as Prime spoke. Hex rose from his seat, an angry sneer now in place. The younger mech glared up at the imposing form of the Autobot Commander as he spat back his own response.

“Trust has to be earned; these Autobots have yet to even convince me that they’re capable of anything, least of all my trust. Axle may have forgiven you for what happened, but there is no way in the Pit I will. Now if you’ll excuse me; I have things to do.”

The silver mech turned on his heel and stalked out of the Command Center leaving Optimus Prime the only occupant of the space. The lone leader let out a heavy sigh before turned and taking his seat once more. It was then he received the incoming transmission from Blaster. He quickly sent back his own transmission and then began the process of bouncing each of the Autobots back to the Ark-19.

Medical Bay

It had taken some time but Ratchet had finally gotten Axle back to working condition. Once he was back on his feet Axle helped Ratchet move their equipment back to the Med Bay along with Bumblebee’s spark. With everything set and, somewhat, back to normal the two medics began the long and arduous process of building a new chassis for Bumblebee.

Orbital Boucne Platform

As the Autobots returned, Prowl noticed water splash all over the platform. He then tuned his attention the injuries. Only three were in stasis-lock, though only one had been put into it as a result of the explosion.

"At least they can still function." Prowl muttered to Ironhide.

He walked over hand helped Jazz with Brawn, who looked like he had been pulverized by a Guardian. And ironically, Brawn was probably in better shape than Hardhead and Blackstrike. Jazz had a damaged arm, judging from his oversevation, which wouldn't do him much good helping Brawn to the medbay by himself. He took one of Brawn's legs and held up his back while Jazz took the side with the intact arm using his still functional one.

The two began carrying Brawn out of the chamber and traversed the corridor.

As they walked, Prowl felt a need to speak to Jazz.

"When we get Brawn in, I'd like to have a talk with you and Ironhide.", he said. "However, I'd like to find some way to include Ratchet in this discussion."

Jazz looked over at Prowl and could tell something was eatting him, probably the explosion and the devastation that occured. Whatever it was, he was certain Prowl intended to speak with the senior ranked Autobots before speaking with Prime, most likey to get their opinions.

"Hey, whatever." Jazz replied as they continued carrying Brawn towards the Medbay. "I'm up for some discussin."

They finally came to the doorway and walked into...

The Med Bay

Form Prowl's initial impressions, it was as if the explosion enevr occured, though there were still some visible signs of where they had to patch up the bulkhead. Axel was functional and Prowl assumed Mirage had to be as well, wherever he was. But there was no time for small talk.

"Greetings Ratchet, We're bringing them in!" Prowl said as he and Jazz motioned Brawn onto the table for operation.

Jazz felt a need to let Ratchet and Axel know about Brawn's Audio receptors since it may go overlooked. "You might wanna replace Brawn's Audio receptors, while your at it. He told me Frenzy gave them a kick'n, though I suspect ol'Brawn here gave him one in return."

Smokescreen materialized on the bounce pad alongside his other Autobot comrades. He still clutched his severed door wing in one hand as he reached around with the other to cradle his damaged right side. The clamp Smokey had used to seal off an energon leak had come loose, and he was once again losing fuel. I'll need to get down to the med bay fast before I'm all out of fluids, the diversion expert thought as he looked over to Blackstrike, who lay in stasis lock next to him. The flier was not the only mech in stasis as a motionless Brawn was carried out of the room by both Prowl and Jazz, not to mention the headless condition that Hardhead found himself in.

As the energon dripped down his side and onto his right leg, Smokescreen stepped off the pad and gave Ironhide a respectful nod. "If someone could get Blackstrike down to the med bay, I'd appreciate it. I don't have the strength to do it myself. Plus, I'm leaking all over the place here." Smokey then turned and followed the others out of the room, slowly making his way through the corridors of the ship.

Medical Bay

Smokescreen entered the newly restored medical facility and immediately walked over to one of the CR chambers, passing by Prowl and Jazz who had just set Brawn onto an operating table. As Smokey worked the chamber's controls, he took notice that both Ratchet and Axle were hard at work on building some kind of new body for Bumblebee, whose spark was resting nearby. Smokey smiled at the thought that 'Bee would soon be back online. After all that the minibot had been through, at the very least he deserved to be whole again.

Once the repair cycle was set, the CR chamber opened and Smokescreen stepped inside. Wasting no time, one of the automated repair arms reached down and grasped the severed door wing from Smokey's hand, carefully repositioning it onto his back where it belonged. The chamber's hatch then slid shut as the appendage began welding the wing into place and other mechanical limbs went to work on repairing the rest of the damage that the diversion expert had sustained.

Lore-lock, blinked as he found himself falling onto his roof. However, he managed to transform as he descended landing in a crouch. He quickly took note of the injuries his fellow bot's took, and wondered, Was all this pain worth it? He heard Smokescreen's request for a mech to get Blackstrike to a CR chamber.

"I'll bring the flier to the Med bay and get him situated." He announced more out of common sense than for any other reason. As he shouldered his load, he instantly knew that he would need some time in a CR chamber himself. With a groan and a grunt he shuffled off to the med bay.

Medical Bay

Lore-lock staggered in to the clean shiny repair facility, bright red hydraulic fluid clearly marked the path he took. Even though there were a wide array of system alarms going off in his logic circuits, he still got the stasis-locked Blackstrike into a CR chamber, without out so much as a grumble. The fun part would be getting to a free one with out slipping in his own fluid. More than once the grey mech lost his footing, but he did it. As the many surgical arms being their thing, Lore-lock knows that this may have been worth it.

Orbital Bounce Platform

Ironhide appeared on the bounce platform, ironically, with a bounce. His shocks flexed painfully and Hardhead’s torso was nearly jarred from its’ awkward position draped across his truck-bed. Rewind and Eject hung on grimly, and Steeljaw appeared a few feet away with Hardhead’s head held firmly in his mouth.

“Hurry up and get ‘im offa me guys,” Ironhide grumbled, urging Rewind and Eject on.

“We’re working on it, Ironhide,” Eject replied, “but Hardhead here is in the heavyweight division and we’re just flyweights.” The two cassetobots managed to shift Hardhead enough to extract Blaster’s dock form from the space underneath. Once he had room, the communications expert transformed, and wasted no time hefting Hardhead’s inert form from atop Ironhide and into a fireman’s carry.

“Thanks,” Ironhide said as he transformed as well. “Take care of Hardhead and lemme know status on the wounded Blaster,” he added, looking around the chamber. Everyone was dispersing to the CR chambers, and taking care of getting the wounded there without any orders from him, so the old mech just nodded to Prowl’s comment and headed for the command center to debrief Prime. Blaster acknowledged with a grunted “sure,” as he went in the opposite direction to the Med-bay.

Steeljaw lowered Hardhead’s severed cranial unit to the deck gently, and mouth finally free, looked to his fellow cassetobots. “I’d appreciate some assistance with an oil bath. I don’t need a CR chamber, but if I don’t immediately see to my maintenance, the salt-water will turn me into a rusted wreck in short order.”

“I’ll take care of it Steeljaw,” Rewind replied, grabbing up Hardhead’s head and following Blaster out of the bay, the golden lion close on his heels.

Med-bay

Blaster entered the bay and noted that most of the CR chambers were already in service, not that it mattered too much. Hardhead would need much more work than a simple CR chamber could provide. He lowered the massive warrior’s body onto an empty table and called, “Ratchet, Axle, one of you… Hardhead’s going to need some serious help guys.”

Rewind was only a moment behind. He deposited Hardhead’s cranium onto the table as well, then crossed the bay and set to work preparing an oil-wash for Steeljaw.

Command Center

Ironhide entered the command center and spied Optimus still at the controls that had retrieved them all from the ocean floor. The tech-spec readings on the bounce controls would have given him an assessment of everyone’s condition, so that part of the debriefing could wait. Actually the sensors would have recorded the amount of energon retrieved as well, so other than an actual blow by blow of the battle, Prime was probably better informed of how things had gone than Ironhide, and the old security mech had been on the scene. Fog of war…

Ironhide snapped a lazy salute and said, “Mission accomplished. It coulda gone better, got 3 in stasis lock, and plenty more walkin’ wounded, but we got energon out and made sure the Decepti-creeps didn’t get a bit of it.”
