Fox broadcasts live suicide?
- Motto: "I'd just like to remind you all that I'm best. Thank you."

I got linked earlier tonight to a live feed from some place where a man was standing on his window ledge threatening to jump.
While I'm not sure of the outcome, does anyone else think its a bit sick that Fox just decided to broadcast this?
As far as I know, the man was nobody significant, just an ordinary bloke with some problems, and a news corp rolled in to put his most difficult moments on the internet for all to see.
I didn't stick around to watch. Am I the only one who thinks this is just plain disgusting? I'm sure it makes great watching material for the morbid and hte bored but seriously...

Fox sinks lower into its own mire every time it airs something. I'm not surprised by them, but I'm still sickened by them.
Anyone seen Untraceable (last year's movie)? Without spoiling anything, that's exactly what happened in that movie. And they treated it as a sick move.

And this is precisely why I don't understand Daily Mail reading Middle England's preoccupation with ruining such great state institutions such as the BBC. Private television companies get away with far too much by setting their own standards and ethical agenda. Fox is the biggest example of that.

It's safe to assume that I'm just taking the piss.

It's Fox. Nothing more really needs to be said.

I always knew Fox were a dispicable corporation (or whatever they'd be), but being here in Engerland means I don't get to see much of the ass they manufacture. After this, well, Jesus...
Yeah I prolly sound like a newcomer to this thing but eh

Fox News is so disgusting that even the few "normal" reporters they have on their talk to other reporters on-air about how disgusting it is.
One of their reporters was just recently a guest on "The Daily Show" and was in agreement with Stewart that Hannity and O'Reilly are a bunch of A$$holes.

The Fox networks own shows make fun of them how more proof do you need than that.

Wouldn't be a first time. Quite a while back I was watching a police chase. The driver stopped on a freeway overpass, put down a large sign complaining about HMO's, then proceeded to blow up his truck while he was inside it. After this failed, he rolled to put out the fire, contemplated jumping off the overpass, but then elected to put a shotgun to his mouth. In keeping with the topic, the camera actually ZOOMED IN when the shotgun went off. Wow...

Re: Fox broadcasts live suicide?
Not broadcasting it is hardly going to prevent it happening.
Since when is professional detachment "disgusting"?
Something newsworthy happens, and they show it. That's their business.

Using a persons death as a means of getting ratings is actually pretty disgusting. This was just some random guy, how is it newsworthy?

Now, I'm no fan of Fox News, but I'm finding this kinda twisted.
Sure it was a sick story to cover, but let's face it, this is America, and the general populace LOVES things like that. That's why we have sites like rotten.com. Ten animated fetuses sing "Prom Night Dumpster Baby" on Family Guy and nobody bats an eye, but one guy eats a bullet and suddenly its offensive?
I'm not saying it was a good story to air, I'm just saying it's not nearly as offensive as most things on television.

Human beings are good at being entertained by tragic events, in general, but do not do so when it is specific.

Yes? Are you denying that the BBC World Service is one of the greatest broadcasting inventions, at times controversial, yet always of the highest standards?

Nope, just amused by the irony I pointed out.

Suicide isn't a tragedy, its a pathetic waste. Does it really deserve respect?

Only if you're a Samurai who just lost a battle, or if your death saves the world or something. Otherwise, it doesn't deserve respect, much less a live feed on Fox News.

That would be lambasting private networks for setting their own moral agenda, and then holding up the BBC as an example of what they should aspire to in [near enough] the same breath.
