Wow. That's actually quite horrible. The head is ginormous, the colors are garish and it just seems like a moneygrab to me. I could see Hasbro releasing it under CHUG2.0eleventyseven for $10 or so, but this will cost upwards of $100.00 or more, depending on how you get it.

Ridiculous.

No not really, this is SG Soundwave, as in a Shattered Glass figure which is Fun Pubs thing and has nothing to do with Hasbro. It's also one of six figures in a box set that costs $320, that's 55 per figure and one of them is a Voyager.

On a side note.

Why do BotCon and Club heads always look so fugly? And I mean always, I haven't seen a single head sculpt by them that looks as good as a Hasbro head sculpt.

I'll be rude and answer with a question: does Fun Pub have access to Hasbro's Design Team, or TakaraTomy's sculpters? I'd say no.

I call this comment overgeneralising.

As evidence, I point you towards the following:

IMO the club has about about a 65% good head rate, which means that I only look at 25% of their stuff and say "wow, that head is very bad"

No they don't but seriously, they have this guy who's been doing this since the beginning and he hasn't improved one bit. Seriously?

Jin Saotome
Timshin
Venksta
TM anemis
Franzy_Rumble

Those guys don't have access to Hasbro's design team, but they can produce much better heads than Fun Pub's guy can. And Jin hasn't been doing head sculpts for as long as him either.

They probably don't wanna pay someone outside their group. Jin Saotome and the like would cost more. But the designs would be nice though

Personally, I think the Club has the ability to come up with some mighty nice headsculpts. Sure they're not all winners, and they have some pretty decent failures. But overall they have a decent average.

The BW Megatron is the best looking one from those, I like SG Blurrs broken eye and the rest you showed are OK, but the overwhelming majority of heads I've seen from TFCC and BotCon are still fugly.

Okay, I'm content with this mold choice, though I would have preferred them to use the Generations Perceptor mold. I'm not thrilled about the headscupt, it's definitely a bit more elongated than it ought to be. However, I'm wondering if the headband will disguise that somewhat. Speaking of the headband, I'm annoyed that we will have to purchase this separately. Knowing the club, I wouldnt be surprised if it costs close to $5.

I had/have pretty high hopes for this figure, and still crossing my fingers that the final product will be worth it.

I guess the headband will be made by Unicron.com wouldn't be the first time they made an official BotCon "toy".

Good call. I really like my Unicron.com items. I've got the 07 Vector Sigma and the Animated accessories set and don't have a single complaint about either.

Maybe I missed it, but is there a reason they DIDN'T go with the Cybertronian Soundwave? Paint him white, add some of that graffiti and you don't have to any major remold for him and could have spent more money on making the rest of the set cooler. Seems like they put a lot of energy into re-working a flawed figure and didn't really end up with a great result.

Still, I never fully judge a figure until I see it (SG Blurr was one that really won me over in person)

We keep telling you guys:

SG Soundwave (or Sir Soundwave now) already had that Earth Mode in fiction, long before the Generations and RtS lines were conceived, let alone the figure itself:

Image

Back in 2008/2009 to be exact, before that he was a repurposed white Music Label Soundwave. So FunPub could never have picked a different mold for him without rewriting some of the backstories.

Seriously, do we need to point this out at every new page?

Apparently...like I said I figured there was a reason somewhere and I haven't been on the boards much as of late.

The only Fun Pub comics I usually pay a lot of attention to are the BotCon ones because frankly, they just seem to lose direction on those multi-part arcs.

To be fair though, FP doesn't usually care what the fig transforms into as long as it looks good in robot mode. Look at BotCon 07 Springer and SG Goldbug for some past examples of this.

You may want to dial it back. If you aren't aware, both of these fellas haven't been around much lately. I can see where people would want the WFC mold for this. Hell, I want it and I'm fully aware that SG Soundwave has never looked like that. This guy, he'll be a welcome addition to the SG ranks for me. Although like others, I do wish we were getting something a bit better.
