Bow before the mighty Megatron

Got a great pic of G1 Op or BW Megs? Whether it's 2-D or 3-D it's welcome as is any other form of art outside the custom figure world.

Bow before the mighty Megatron

Postby Skyquake » Sat Jul 21, 2007 4:50 pm

Since I've been around on & off here at Seibertron for... years and then some (pretty much just RPG though), I thought I'd share my relatively new Megatron artwork here (rough style intended). Hope you enjoy it! A new one is in the works.

That's some bloody good stuff there.
I'm curious what you used, though. The actual figure looks kinda like a decent-sized acrylic painting to me, although a lot of the background and the smoke from the cannon I think look more like digital airbrush. What medium's it in?

Just stroking in Photoshop pretty much I'm afraid ^^ Mainly just hard brushes. The original image size is 3508x2480. But maybe I'll try painting a TF with watercolors some day hehe :) Did a decent landscape with them not long ago, so my eternal hatred for them didn't end up being all that eternal.

No need to be 'afraid' about it - it's just testament to your talent and the power of painting programs nowadays!
I never got on with oils, to be honest; when I used them I found myself waiting for ages for them to dry, and I really don't have the patience for that. I like watercolours, but acrylics are my non-electronic medium of choice - they're much more versatile in my book, and you can work with them quickly and they're dry in a few minutes.

It's not really a fixed time; it kinda depends on what you're applying it to and how thickly. In my experience, it can take anywhere between hours and a week. Although I've not really used oils that much - I've been tempted to try again occasionally, but never got round to it. i like acrylics too much.

I've never seen oil on canvas take longer much longer than over-night to dry. It's mostly a matter of not over-loading the canvas or mixing in too much oil. They can give very nice effects, but acrylics are probably better for achieving the sharp, inorganic effects that look so good on a Transformer painting.

Not really. They only come off with paint thinner. They can smell funny. The paint thinner smells bad, and it can take a while to get your technique down. Why put up with all of it?
Because they're pretty.
