I imagine that a highly advanced race of transforming robots might have mastered space travel without having to scan Earth vehicles or transports from other planets or building giant spaceships.

Based on everything I have seen, Megatron has the exact same form on Earth as he did when he was on Cybertron. His Alt mode is capable of space travel. I don't see why any other Transformer is not capable of doing the same. Never once do you see any Transformer fly in bot mode so I don't think it is fair to say that the Autobots can't fly. The Alt mode they chose was not capapble of flight. I imagine that the Autobots could take flight if they chose a jet or something similar. For all we know they could revert to some type of Cybertronian form capable of space flight.

The rules of trans-scanning are never fully laid out. I think it is only necessary for the Transformers to scan new forms like the cars they disguised themselves as. After scanning the information required to take on that form they shouldn't have to scan it again.

I imagine if Bumblebee wanted to take on his '74 Camaro appearance again, he could do so without scanning it again but if he wanted to become a '69 Camaro or a Mustang or whatever really he would have to scan that. I also think it requires more than just performing a "skin" change. The '74 and the '08 are not built on the same chasis. It probably requires a quick but complete reconfiguration of the entire car mode.

I've seen Starscream and Cyclonus fly in bot mode.

Does it matter right now??? So far it's not part of the movie so far...let's not get ahead of ourselves.

I meant in the movie.

In the G1 cartoon, everyone could fly in bot mode. Look at Season 1, the Autobots flew quite a bit in bot mode.

Was Starscream in like mid transformation when he was chasing those Raptors?
When he first came up behind them he was turing into a jet, which means he had to of been a robot in the air at one point.

Here is something interesting that I found while reading the prequel novel. Bumblebee engages Starscream near Mars's surface and in the novel, there was a segment that said something like "Bumblebee went through his data to find the schematics for a 4 wheeled vehicle and transformed."

So im guessing that Transformers have memories of past forms stored so they can switch, im guessing Bumblebee had a cubertronian form other then the protoform pod. So I guess if the Transformers would return to their protoform state, they can leave the planet

If he can store data for 10 earth cars, he'd be switching back and forth different car models anytime. It will be hard to trace him.
