I wanted to share and talk about my latest haul. It's kind of a doozy!
For me anyway.
Let's start with,
Exhaust.
He comes with a great story. I went to China Town L.A. hunting for MP KOs. I know, KOs you say!?!?
Look I have spent the last 20 years shelling out all my hard earned dough to Hasbro. Between my TF collection and my Star Wars collection, I don't think Hasbro is gonna mind.
Anyway, back to the story. No KOs were found, but Exhaust was. I never intended on getting this guy because it just seemed like it would be too much work. Low and behold there he was, just starring at me. So you better believe I scooped him up! I had a handful of Hello Kitty goodies for my preschooler back home so I decided to try to haggle. It worked. They knocked ten bucks off the price. So the very taboo MP Exhaust for $60? Sold. American!!!!
Shajaki had made a comment that I "fell bass ackwards into a pile of Exhausts". Well sorta.
The figure is GREAT! I'm a big fan of Wheeljack, but dare I say, I like this use a little better? There are just some subtle differences that really set it off. The blue translucent used in the headlights and wings looks fantastic, and the head sculpt is a old school Takara HOME RUN!!!!
Sometimes an accident is the best thing that can happen.
ROARWow! I really really really like this guy. Dino mode is Fantastic! Big and bulky, clumsy like the OG. The colors are great. The plastic used is really nice. The gold chrome looks good and feels solid. Robot mode looks even better. The guy is huge! Imposing! The esthetic, IMO, fits right in with what I think the Classics update of the Dinobots should be. Very Takara in my eyes.
The figure does have some short comings though. The issue with the red plates that form his torso to shoulder region is kinda annoying. They don't lock into place, so they rotate every time you go to pose the arms. The other thing that bugs me is thigh swivel joint is placed just above the knees instead of farther up the thigh. This makes bending his knees with any swivel imposable. It really cuts down on the dynamics I'd hoped to get out of his poses.
This is my first ever 3rd party toy. 20 years of collecting, and I've held off. I'm really happy with the figure, but I gotta admit, I'm having some strange feelings. Like I did something wrong, or betrayed an old friend. I'm also having a hard time swallowing the price. I understand all the factors that go into pricing these 3P toys, but Roar really costs 3 times what he should, or could. Any of you guys who dabble in 3P had this feeling?
All that being said, I can't wait to get my hands on Muddy and the rest of this crew. Really looking forward to not-Slag. The combined form will be GIAMUNGATOID!!!!
Ultra MagnusWhat do I really need to say about this guy? He is just F#@$ING AWESOME! I mean AWESOME! I have no complaints about him. His transformation is a thing of beauty. It could have been so tedious, but it's actually FUN! I don't even care about the shoulder thing or the no waist swivel.
I saved up for 6 months for this guy. He was so worth the wait. The best Transformer I've bought this year! Hands down.
Thanks for humoring my musings y'all.
I sure love this hobby.
