The Collect-o-Tron Moonbase is looking great! Everyone else is talking about the other robots and I’m over here really digging that dragon Zord. So much so I looked it up on eBay you know, just to see.

If I recall correctly I think that serpenterror was unique to the west...though I'm not confident about that. Now about that ready player one, I've been recommended it a lot but never found the time to get it (plus a lot of reading at the moment is folklore research for my writing) why has the movie been given the cold shoulder? Any movie featuring the rx-78 gundam standing next to the iron giant seems worth my time

Transformers are just one of the concubines in my collection herom. The vault goes deep. Power Rangers, Beetleborgs, and other Bandai goodies. Model kits, Exo Squad, Robotech, etc. etc. Then there's all the non-robot toys. Over the last few years I have focused mainly on TFs, but all in all I'm better described historically as a toy collector, not just a Transformers collector. Now if I only had the space to display it all.

No. You're not the only one. Z and Jak are too. What did you find on eBay? I just searched and found one with a starting bid of $24. I have no idea what it's worth.

Well through all this I ran back down to the dungeon and dug out the only Raideen toy I have.


He's so tiny! So cute!

I also spent a good 45 min scouring the web for bigger nicer versions of him. Speaking of rabbit holes!

RIGHT! He also drives the dang Delorean from Back to the Future! This movie(book) is an intense love letter to the 80's and 90's

Lol I didn't know they made raideens that small! I saw a nice one that came with his Base but it was pricey.

I've heard a lot of the author's (of ready player one) work is a love letter to those decades as I've looked into armada (which is also becoming a film)

Even Neon Genesis got a nod in Ready Player 1.

It was my first audiobook on a biz trip I took....it made the flight to China a lot better!

There are so many Easter eggs in the book, that even if the movie only uses a small fraction if them, it's still gonna be Chuck full.

Speaking of book adaptations, have any of you seen ALTERED CARBON on Netflix? Highly recommend sci-fi!

Yup, watching it right now. Definitely more my cup of tea than the latest blade runner film.

Oh and yeah the joke before about Grendizer was that for some reason, that specific iteration is probably the most popular cartoon of all time in Quebec. Its not one in a series but rather one show called Goldorak. This is the first thing you see on his wiki entry:

Its before my time but I was just having fun with Cobo about how even giant japanese robots can be part of how cultures differ all over the world.

But yeah, Goldorak is loved so much and such a staple here that if I were to collect toys of him instead of TFs, my parents would totally approve and understand.

Sadly I lack a current Netflix subscription, but I have heard good things about it, not much on TV for me these days.

I'm glad yer digging it, Will -- I liked the new BladeRunner, but it's certainly more about mood/tone, as opposed to the action and depth of Altered Carbon (being based on the book helps!).

I totally get that about blade runner and I enjoyed those exact aspects, but thats all there was to a really long film. So yeah, Altered Carbon is more my thing. The existential debates are still there but they do more with it.

Also itscram, Goldorak does transform, kinda.

My reading list keeps getting longer and longer I need to find the time for all the Tolkien books my father recently gave me.

@will it's not in the new movie that I'm aware of but I haven't been able to see that one yet anyways, hoping someone picks it up for a UK release. Though I should look into importing the American dvd sets some time...

Also transformers aren't the only transformable mechs out there Japan has a fine heritage in them and it's thanks to a certain American comic that super sentai shows got started in Japan (talking specifically about the super sentai franchise as it was predated by Ultra man and kamen rider by a fair few years)...wow I managed to bring this round to power rangers again

Cary El Uno just recommended Altered Carbon the other day too. If everyone else likes it too, I better check it out!
