I very much dislike this combination and think Victorion looks like ass.

We were told from the outset that the fan-built combiner would be retools of existing molds, not entirely new molds. If you missed that memo, the alt mode voting rounds should have made that apparent.

I hope if we get something like a fan built headmaster this year that it's a male for the sake of diversity I got no problem with fembots but it gets boring when you know that every single one of the fan made Transformers is going to be female.

You realize, I hope, that the reason all two fan-built bot polls have resulted in female characters is because it seems like the only way we can get any female characters. Honestly the next 5 polls could all result in female characters and the gender discrepancy would still be highly male-favored. By all means, vote for what you want, but look at the big picture.

kurthy wrote:I think if you're colorblind, you win on this set because they're all gray.

That is not how colorblindness works.

And to address a common theme: what makes a character appear female and how female these toys do or don't look was discussed to death last year. Instead of rehashing the same arguments, how about everybody just rereads the older posts to get their fix?

Same goes for Computron and Piranicon's color schemes.

the colours are pretty garish on a transformer but that's nothing new as has been pointed out. They remind me of seacons afflicted by cosmic rust.
Actually I don't mind it, would've matched my sofa / throw combo :D

I do have a suspicion that the pics are toned down because the toys seen in photos had a brighter green.

Other problems is that she's late to the game and I think combiner wars and mould fatigue has set in.

They could've come up with a better way for her to hold the sword.

That chopper arm remould should've been used for blades.

hasbro should make the tilted ankle feet available to buy separately.
My personal prime collection so far in descending order of how great i reckon the toy is -
FE Prime, Silas Breakdown (Powerizer), Dreadwing (Powerizer), FE Bulkhead, Voyager StarScream (Powerizer), Ratchet, Soundwave, Arcee, Voyager Megatron (Powerizer), Wheeljack, Thundertron (Powerizer), Ultra Magnus (Powerizer), Knockout, Cliffjumper, Bumblebee,Airachnid

I love the hands and the feet. They are such an improvement over the boxing gloves that turn into midget sneakers. If hasbro went this route with all the combiners and ditched to silly "hands/feet must do something in all modes" concept, perfect effect would never have jumped in with add on sets. I got a Tupperware full of ugly hasbro fists already just sitting there taking up space.

Also, why did they have to put "Fan-Built" in the official title, and on the box? It's as if Hasbro is saying -"WE had nothing to do with this, if you hate it, its your own fault"

Agreed.

I dont remember fans "building" anything here. They got to vote on the color scheme, gender, and which molds get another run. I dont classify that as "building". Maybe they can say it was "fan picked", but definitely not fan built. Same thing goes for windblade.

Have they no shame? Two helicopters who share the same mold & colour scheme as limbs for one combiner? Very lazy, especially the fact that this mold has already been used for Alpha Bravo, Vortex & Blades to name a few.

I also agree with what that bot said with regards to this being fembots. It that really such a big deal?

G2 colors may clash but at least they pop. And it's not a problem with the colors, it's the use of the colors. They don't look crisp. All 3 colors have a similar feel rather than highlighting.

I love Devastator because his color layout rocks, but some of the Seacons look bad on their own, mainly Nautilator (? I can't remember if he's the shark with legs). Think about G1 Rampage's robot mode, it's a red, orange and yellow mess.

It's not the colors themselves, but Hasbro's use of the colors is awful. The choices that Hasbro gave for color also weren't that great, and this was the best of the bunch, IIRC. But the color layout was always going to be exactly the same, the layout wasn't designed after the colors were chosen to make them look the best but before so that they could just plop the fan choices in.

It's like the vote for OS, Tryp, and Scorp late last year. They already had a lot of leg work done on those three so they just gave the fans the option of which one was made first, not waiting to see how the vote goes.

And more to the point, the alt modes of the land vehicles looks fine, but it's the robot modes, the helicopters and gestalt that irritate me. The colors are in small chunks which makes them look like someone ate tomatoes and peas, then threw up on them. The color splotches are not good.

You have this complex that everything must do something. I grew up with G1 toys so I dont share that complex. Nothing is more annoying on the hotspot/mold than having combiner head kibble stuck on the vechicle or robot modes. I wish it were detachable so I could just throw it in a box when Im not using it. I could care less where combiner the hands hide in alt mode. I use my imagination. Everything doesnt need a scientific explanation. (Like mass shifting for example) Just think of it as alien technology and stop trying to hold it to the laws of earth science. Annoying parts kibble ruins all the fun. Ditto for guns that look like feet and feet that look like guns.

I've gotta agree with X here. Given that I display my combiners in combined mode, I would rather have feet that look good but don't do anything than feet that do something and don't look good.

You have this complex that cartoon space magic is an excuse for lazy engineering. I grew up with self-contained Transformers toys so I don't share that complex. Nothing is more annoying on the "second generation" Hasbro combiners (Vicky, Computron and Liokaiser) and many expensive third party combiners than large amounts of the combined mode having nothing to do outside of combined mode. I wish the parts actually did something so they weren't just more parts to keep track of and take up space when they aren't combined. I couldn't care less if the combined mode proportions aren't perfect. I don't display them in combined mode all the time anyway. Things which are only explainable via "cartoon space magic" need to be gotten rid of (like mass shifting for example). Just think of it as common sense and stop trying to hold it to the rules of a 30 year old merchandise driven cartoon. Annoying useless parts ruin all the fun. Ditto for simplified cheap-looking combiner kibble with nothing to do outside of one mode.

But g1 hotspots combiner head wasn't detachable either ;-)

I'm on the fence with this particular issue but I think the ghf (guns/hands/feet) just needed a bit more work to get them perfect. I love the scramble city approach and as a kid it was the perfect remedy for me since I could only get what I could find in bootsales. For the just fists or feet approach to work with scramble city you would have to either sell a hand and a foot with every deluxe mold or the full set of combiner accessories would come with the voyager.

It's fan made from the votes that the fandom picked I would assume that fits into the criteria of being fan built.

Justified since they are pretty different from the other uses of the Alpha Bravo mold story wise they are twins but they don't look exactly the same such as different heads and reversed patterns on their chest plates..

Huh, I just noticed they retooled the combiner chest/ladder swivel assembly on Pyra Magna. That's neat.

I'll say it again; it's a real shame these girls aren't being released individually, because I'd totally buy Pyra Magna on her own.

Considering the reports I just cleared, I'm gonna give a preemptive word of attention: Everyone has his/her own opinion of the many facets of Transformers products, may they be toys, comics, etc. Please respect those that are different from yours and refrain from attacking or provoking others. Just agree to disagree and move on. If you can't leave it alone, just keep it at stating your reasons for your preferences and let that be the end of it.

As for the HFGs, I'm not a fan of them, but they don't break my decision to buy the combiners. Perfect Effect has designed great complementary pieces to the figures, but I haven't bought them, simply because the Hasbro HFGs aren't bad enough IMO to be replaced. As for them being kibble when the combiners are separate, I don't have an opinion because I don't own the pieces. But all my combiners are in combiner mode, so the HFGs are in use.

On Victorion, the "fan-built" combiner, I have my own theory, and it most likely won't be popular. Due mainly to this belief I kept out of participating in this thread, other than monitor it as a mod. But my thought on this whole concept is that whether Victorion can be called "fan-built" or "fan-made" or "fan-approved" is irrelevant. I think this whole thing was rigged, and the figure had been chosen by those in charge before the voting ever took place. So the voting results may not even be legit. I have the same opinion regarding the voting on which Titan Class figure should be done next, but that's for the thread concerning the Titans. Now, for the sake of there actually being a combiner team released as a result of this voting, there was a discussion earlier about whether Victorion should be called "fan-built" or "fan-approved" or "fan-voted" or whatever. I believe Victorion can not be accurately called "fan-built." Fans were asked of the gender (aren't Transformers supposed to be genderless?) and other small details. But did we get to vote on every part of the figure's production? Did we get a say in every step from the individual members' design all the way to the art on the box? That would have been "fan-built." I'm not sure what to call Victorion in terms of how much say the fandom actually had.

I think it's cool how cleverly and simply many of the hfg's were integrated (breakdown, offroad, rook/swindle/brawl) I like that they give you the option to really weapon up the individual figure, while also providing a logical weapon for the combiners (knuckle-mounted weapons make a lot of sense at their size)

I'd say the only reason they may seem off putting is that many of the limbs are very wide in leg mode, making the feet look extra small, on slimmer figures (the aerialbots) they are very much in proportion with the rest of the body.
I am not a G1 fan, please treat my opinions as such.

We lose a "knee" function, but for some I like to display with the leg "sideways." It makes the overall figure much more proportional, in my opinion, and offers something new to look at.

For these gals, I haven't decided if I'm going to leave Vic in gestalt mode. I like the individual bots a lot. So, for this reason, I am with those that would have liked to see more HGF integration for Vic.

On the other hand, there's always hulk hands Rook.... Just gotta figure out what to do with the feet...

Well, the feet seem to have some additional points of articulation, and while I'm afraid what that would mean for the stability, it also seems like hasbro could've easily drilled a port into the back of the foot to have the hands plug under the feet; I don't think we can say they can't until we get in-hand pics, but the feet at least look like bulky engine components and could be plugged into the sides of pyra's ladder assembly, if it's anything like hotspots;
