Custom - Anatomy of Megatron

It's been a while since I posted something here, so let's do something with it!This time I will not show you a figure but a display idea I was having in my mind for some time already. As I have never seen anything like this before in Transformers fandom, I think this may be the first of its kind. If so, I hope you will like it and maybe get inspired to try your own ideas in similar style.

This idea had a few difficult areas I needed to address before I started, so it took me a while to figure some stuff out and find proper materials to work with - especially deep enough frame with plexiglass window to properly seal my creation but let's start from the beginning.

First thing I needed was my donor figure. For a moment I thought about some G1ish Optimus, however in the end I decided that this is slightly too obvious choice and having in mind how difficult it is for some collectors to get Earthrise Prime mold, it would feel inconsiderate to sacrifice one. That's why I have decided to go with his adversary - Siege Megatron! Pretty spot on modern take on G1 Megs

Next step was full disassembly, including screws and pins removal. I wanted my display to show both absolutely basic parts and components they combine into. That's why the right side of the picture includes every single pieca and the left one on the same level shows modules they form. This makes my display a bit easier and clearer to read for untrained viewer.

One of the biggest difficulties was designing proper layout, starting from background format and ending with placement of each component. I played with it for some time and once I was satisfied, I started measuring all the parts and designing proper "boxes" to fit them in. Afterwards I transferred everything to my PC and printed out my final layout on a nice, gloss paper. I also remembered to add Decepticon insignia and basic figure information in the right bottom corner.
I have glued such prepared background to a solid board and started gluing all of Megatron's pieces to it. When designing the layout, I also included assembly lines and module arrows + descriptions to better present how each of the parts is contributing to the whole figure.

When this was done, I only needed proper display cabinet to frame my creation. I was able to find a very sturdy wooden frame with plexiglass window and enough depth to perfectly encapsulate the project. Once everything has been assembled, I have ended up with a very original and unusual decoration, which can be hanged in every collector's cave.

And that would be it! I hope you enjoyed this short break from awesome figures my fellow radicons are posting on the website and maybe got inspired to experiment with your own display methods.

This exact decoration is a special gift to someone who offered a lot of help and kindness to me, as well as growth and development of Transformers part of my life. It is a small token of appreciation, which I hope will remind him of our work together. If you are reading this - Thank you once again!
