yes, my uncle and i looked at each other and i said "guess bay's a decepticon fan!" and he laughed, but this was the stupidest part of the movie for me, they couldve done that differently for sure, and the excuse was "we need those glasses" so bassically there saying if the transformers need something, they act like bumbling baffons? terrible.

that's the big thing right there. One nice thing about season 3 of the TV show was more transformer screen time and less human screen time, thanks in large part to the Quintessons.

Personally, I hated series 3 and what could be described as series 4. Series 1 and 2 were so much better in my opinion because it was based on Earth; it grounded the thing and made it believable. As a kid I could relate to the characters who saw common vehicles turn into robots.
Series 3, thanks to the Quintessons, had virtually NO grounding and wasn't "robots in disguise", it was.. transforming robots fighting each other in space. Opinions are opinions :P

As for the discussion, it is true that the characters weren't fully shown, but.. as a fan, you should already know and enjoy the experience - well, maybe not everyone - and non-fans enjoy it because there isn't anything like it. Plus, all of the designs and demeanors are different for each Autobot. You might not know their names, but you know what they are like and can separate them.
It's not uncommon for me to watch a new film and miss half of the characters' names! And I'm an avid watcher and critic of films.

I vote for more characterisation in the next one, but I don't want the sequel to alienate the audience with TOO much Transformers on screen just to satisfy the fan base.

What's "TOO much Transformers" in a movie called "Transformers?" I'd rather a less successful movie (financially) than a movie way watered down to appeal to the unwashed non-fans.

I'd rather have a film that is a good film, which is Transformers. I'd like everyone I know to appreciate it; which happened with the first film. I like the appeal of getting MORE people into liking Transformers rather than JUST going for the obsessive fan base and alienating everyone else.

If you had like 20 Transformers on each side or.. Unicron or OTT mass-shifting, or jetting off into space (or all of those things at once) most people will just think its a silly fan-service movie full of random jargon and unexplained backstory.
There's watered down for non-fans and there is watered down for fans.

Of course, it's my opinion, and TF2 will probably be OTT like most sequels these days (Dead Man's Chest, Matrix Reloaded) riding high on the "BIGGER is better" ethos rather than "let's make it good" ethos.

This makes about the least sense possible from a business point of view, which is, in the end, the point of view that actually matters here. Hasbro, Paramount, and Dreamworks had two objectives in attracting a wide range of people to see the movie: To increase the fanbase and to MAKE MONEY.

Why wouldn't you want to attract new fans to the series? That gets Hasbro more money for toys and TV and the studio more money for a sequel.

Very true I was happy with the number of TFs in this movie, anymore and it would have been to many. I just wasn't happy with the amount of time they go on screen where they weren't fighting or acting like immature 20ft high versions of the three stooges. There were too many human characters, but not too few Transformers.

Indeed that certainly is a worry. In Hollywood these days it seems to be a popular misconception that more is better. I've always been a quality over quantity guy myself which probably why I find most Hollywood 'blockbusters' pretty unappealing.

Actually sometimes sequels are usually better in my opinion. Especially in super-hero, comic based movies. (X-men, F4, Spiderman) I thought the sequels to those movies were better than the first. Especially because the sequels usually show the interpersonal relationships between the main characters more and there is an easier flow to the story because they no longer have to worry about the introductions to the storyline and whatnot for non-fans. I think its by the time they reach the third movie in the series that it starts going downhill. Like Spiderman 3 and X-Men3 really were not that great, good but not great. So that is when I'd really worry.

I actually look forward to a Transformers 2 in anticipation of more interaction with the bots, because I agree that they did not get enough screen time at all. To me it seemed that just when you were getting a taste for their personalities, they were off to battle again and then the movie was over. >.>;; So...hooray for #2!!....hopefully. ^____^

Yes I agree, more characterisation of the current robots is just as important, if not more so, than having completely new characters. They have to find the right balance of going deeper with the ones we have and introducing just a few to stir things up. X-Men 2 and Spiderman 2 are good examples.

2nd parts do tend to work more than 3rds.. I guess I just worry now because the 1st one worked so well for me :P
I have this nasty vision of Sam getting a spacesuit and racing off into space with the Transformers to find Cybertron in the 3rd film. *shivers*

AK, they made it plainly obvious that Ratchet was a medic. DId you not notice that he used his regenerative laser to fix Bumblebee's vocal chords? :P

No, in all seriousness, I agree. The amount of Transformers was just right but they didn't develop any of them enough. Countless people have struggled to identify one from the other. Most people I know who saw it couldn't even name two thirds of the Transformers, let alone tell them apart.

But, er, you should have known Burn's nationality!

Seriously it's not in his profile, I don't remember him mentioning it, and so it has never really registered with me.
