Personally, I couldn't even finish the first book. Bored the snot out of me. Honestly though I'm used to reading Agatha Christie, Rex Stout, and Ian Fleming.

The very first paragraph in the first book is quite possibly the most worst piece of writing ever.

Thankfully it got better after that.

So, basically, you know nothing about the series, but you hate it anyway because it's not Transformers?
You show no evidence that you even know enough to base an opinion on.

My bet is that he hates it because, like myself, he's sick of Harry Potter and the surrounding publicity. Oh, and JK Rowlings is the second most creepy famous female on the planet...

I was sick of the surrounding publicity about Twilight, but rather than going "I hate it. Don't argue with me". I watched the first movie.

So now I can say "I hate it. Don't argue with me" and it's an educated opinion!

Hating something without making an effort to read, watch, listen, or experience in some way is just ... well ... small minded and bordering on ignorance. But hey, it's why we love you Sly!
I kid. We hate you. All of us and the Shadow Government hate you. When you least expect it we're gonna get you.

Paula Deen. Her expression never changes...just compare her pictures on her magazine and publicity photos and on her cookware line. I believe she's an alien robot sent to kill us all.

I read all 7. Really, really not interested in reading 6 and 7 but since I've already gone through 1 to 5, I convinced myself very hard to finish the last two. About their movies, I only watched the first one and then totally dissed it. I watched no more movies after that because I know they won't be as good as the book besides I already lost my interest at the book after 4 or 5.

Actual story > "Story no important1111"
Faithfulness to source material > terrible humans with robot scenery

In all honesty, I've not read any of the Harry Potter books, but have seen all the films thanks to my sister and girlfriend being rabid fans. From what they've said the HP movies are faithful to the books as much as a 2 hour movie can be faithful to a 500 page book, and despite never reading a book from the series I feel that the characters in the movies are developed to the point that I care when somethiung untoward happens to them. I was saddened when Dobby died, and if he were in the same room as I am, I doubt I'd recognize him. I've been a rabid TF fan for the lifetime of the franchise and can't find much of any development in any of the films to warrant an attchment to any character despite knowing the characters for 26 years. Ironhide dissolved and I was unphased, just as his Autobot teammates were.

I know that my only concern as a TF fan should be the deaths and explosions, as that's the zomg part of the films, [/sarcasm] but I think the HP series is a great counteproint to the TF series. See, you can be faithful to the source (not meaning exclusively G1, but meaning not peeing robots or testicles) and have some action sequences and a storyline and effects. HP has dragons and stuff, and I know they aren't the CGI showcases the TF films are, but my point stands.

And it's not like HP is always all srs buiness. Kids go to wizard college. And that's more or less realistic than robot aliens? Phhhft.

I can't claim to know who'll make more money, and since I'm not going to get any of it, I suppose I'm not very invested in who wins. But, I waited like a week to go see DOTM; at my insistance, we got midnight tickets for HP, and to reiterate, I've never even read a single book from the series. So, there's who the better franchise is in my humble opinion.

But, to further the unifying point, yes, Harry Potter is lightyears better than Twilight. That is beyond question.
