Wasn?t sure where to post this, but Dev suggested here, so here it is...
Realizing that basics from various lines could be used to augment my Robotmasters line, I initially took an
Signal Flare and a
Offshoot (from the Energon line) and mixed parts to get a more uniform look: I put the blue arms from Offshoot with the light-blue colored Signal Flare and put Signal Flare?s arms on the almost similar colored Offshoot. This already looked nicer and better balanced.
I then realized that with a little paint the blue one would make a nice Soundwave. I did play with the thought of making the colors more like the MW or the Universe version, but that would?ve meant more paint than I was willing to do: after all, it was only going to be a minor alteration.
During painting more and more ideas crept into this. I had just painted the first two layers of blue on the chest, when I decided to flatten his chest and fill up the spark/energon star hole in his chest to make it more like G1 Soundwave. Did this and then realized that if this was going to be Soundwave, then he needed to come with at least one partner. And since the G1 Soundwave toy came with Buzzsaw, I went with that. Of course, a transforming condor at this size is really way beyond my abilities. My initial idea was to make Buzzsaw like a missile, but that would not have a proper representation of this figure IMO. In the end, Buzzsaw became some kind of hybrid between a missile, the G1 condor, and something like a remote controlled drone jet.
And then of course I had to figure out a way to attach this Buzzsaw. This I did by attaching some sort of shield on Soundwave?s lower arm so he can carry Buzzsaw around a bit like a falconer. (This had the added bonus of covering up the arm in altmode)

Right: Buzzsaw on the shoulder as he often was in the G1 cartoon

When reassembling Soundwave, I unfortunately made a little mistake: during coating I had forgotten to put colorstop in the holes for the pins just above the feet, which resulted in some coat ending up there. When I tried to get the pins back the holes were too small and in the end a little plastic melt occurred. I quickly removed the pins and drilled out the holes for a better fit, but I?m afraid there?s a little damage.
(PS: Although this started out to become RM Soundwave, he really is too small for that. I?ll use RM Giga Bomb for that and this one will be more like a spychanger Soundwave.)
