It's about time! He looks great. Sure, I'm disappointed that he's not blue, but I don't have the money for the Diaclone version, and I prefer the lack of gold chrome on the retail version. If they did offer the option of blue I'd be right on it. Not even for cartoon accuracy either, but just to break up the colours a little so it's not so much of a red overload when looking at the team.

Bot mode looks wonderful, I love how sleek he looks in between the other two, making the difference between power and speed/agility really stand out. Transformation is going to be the most simple, it seems, which is not a bad thing at all.

As for alt mode, I really like it. As a dinosaur, it's actually more accurate than any of the other 3P offerings so far. The legs look a little chunky, but the Pteranodon certainly did have recognisable legs, unlike the other Third Party figures which just look to have feet sticking out of a torso, albeit that's more accurate to G1 I guess. The sedentary pose in the bottom right looks great.

The most important thing to me is this Swoop scales properly with his comrades in robot mode. That midget swoop was stupid from the getgo.

Well, we know that the old cartoon was a bastion of animated accuracy...

I seem to remember Swoop more or less sizing consistently with the other Dinobots in the toon. But, I think most media since then (perhaps even the comics) has had Swoop much smaller.

Heck, from that pic, Sludge should size closer to Grimlock than the behemoth we've seen lately.

Personally, I'm okay with a little more realistic consistency between alt modes, and the associated shifting of the bot modes...

It's classic G1 size inconsistency. This also happened:

Not to mention how Swoop in alt-mode is often tiny compared to the other Dinobots... it would make sense for him to be a bit smaller.

That second pic isn't so bad to me size wise. According to the size chart he's about a head smaller than the rest of the Dinos ... isn't his toy smaller too? The pic on the teaser of him beside the other two FP Dinos seems about right.

I'm starting to come round on this thing. Maybe a video review and better photos will convince me.

I wonder if he comes with a flight stand. Would be nice, considering he's a lot less bulk but the same price.

Im wondering if the legs can be pegged together to give him the "butt with feet" G1 look as an option....

Also looking at the deco, theres not a lot of stuff on gold for the "diaclone" version to have chromed out. Just the head. The claws appear to be gold painted at the tips which means chrome is unlikely. Really hope the heads are an easy swap.

The regular version of Cubrar also has the chromed mane. Additionally, the regular Columpio has the chrome wings/side pannels. The diaclone difference has been the gold parts being "golden chrome" rather than painted gold. But they aren't doing golden chrome with the foot paint on any versions. For Volar, Im only seeing a golden head. If they do the wings in silver on the diaclone version, it will still go with the regular versions. As long as I can find a way to remove the golden chrome head and replace it with the painted gold head.

well, when youre right youre right. i thought the silver was flatter on the regular release. my bad.

gold chrome head and blue torso would be enough for me, but i would positively gleeful if the wings were flashy silver too.

Tighter hips ? Cool. Sludge was a bit on the loose side. Now hopefully the next dino will come with a blue torso for volar. Its kind of a grey area because its both diaclone and cartoon accurate at the same time. I shouldnt have to buy the exclusive just to get G1 accuracy.
