So yeah. What is your favorite weird repaint? You don't have to own it or even a version of the mold, it just has to be a redeco and have weird colors.

Mine is a tie between Universe (2003) Silverbolt and RiD Bludgeon. Awesomely bizarre.

I never had one, but I always thought that weird G1 yellow Cliffjumper looked really nice. I've been watching G1 reruns on the Hub, and every so often I notice them accidentally having CJ as yellow for a few frames, an I'm like just "yeah, darn that Bumblebee, Cliffy's the one that should've been yellow"! lol

Cybertron Red Alert into Cybertron Cannonball.

One of the few repaints into a totally new character - and what a character! A space pirate who has the whole "Dread Pirate Roberts" thing going on!

My favourite repaint is Astrotrain as a true NASA space shuttle, and not his tradition black and purple TF colour scheme.

Define weird. RiD Scourge is a black repaint of an Optimus prime, that's not weird it's almost halfways expected whenever we get a prime mold that there will eventually get either a black or white repaint, or both. On that note black repaints of anything are generally viewed as normal unless it was black to begin with. I don't view botcon redecos as weird either since you kinda got to expect the unexpected most of the time with the stuff fun pub does.

I suppose anything from the 2003 universe line would make the best selection, but then I still ask what defines a view of weird to any given person. While ultimately I'd probably say Universe 2003 Depthcharge is my favorite "weird repaint", if I take the time to think about it I might say the original version had the weird color scheme in comparison!

In defense of him calling RID Scourge weird, it's not weird to get an evil black Prime NOW, but back when I first started watching the RID cartoon, it did seem pretty weird to me. Especially with all those upside down G2 Autobot symbols the Decepticons had on the show but not on the (US version) toys.

How about Sunspot? Yellow and white Spyplane, wouldn't that be pretty noticeable? Plus his bio makes him out to be a ditz who loves flying, and he looks kinda silly when linked up to Mindwipe.

I did have a G1 yellow Cliffjumper until it was melted when my house burned to the ground a long time ago. Right now I would have to say my fav is the upcoming G2 Ramjet from TFCC.

Considering that at the time, black Prime/Convoy repaints weren't that common, I think it could be considered a weird concept. I believe that Black Convoy was only the second or third time a Prime/Convoy was given a black repaint, Black Lio Convoy being the first (both Black Convoy and JAFCON's Convoy Black Version were released in the same year so it's hard to tell which technically came out first).

As for me, it would either be Big Mos from Beast Wars II or Hardhead from Beast Wars Neo.

Maybe in American markets, but like you said in japan there was Black Lioconvoy in 98, Black Big Convoy in 99, and the Convoy black ver. the same year as the Car Robots character. So they had a good 3 years to set the trend before it came to RiD Scourge, at which time they had the nucleon quest Convoy out. So with that many black Prime repaints within that time frame, I think it was safe to assume the 'weird' had worn off. At least that's the way I felt about it at the time.
