One of my fave weird repaint is Mega-empress/Megatronia :





Let's summarize : a protectobot, retooled into a female bot, which is then repainted as female Megatron.

The level of improbability is absurd.

But the result is awesome. On my opinon better than the original mold and retools.

I like it, more than the other fem-bot. I'm not sure if it's weird or cool, but the accompanying comic is... weird. Good pick tho

I don't know what it was either, but the Tidal Wave from the Siege on Cybertron boxset amuses me because he can double as a giant Flattop in an unintended revival of the trend.

Here's my favorite weird repaint: Gasket (Cybertron Ransack's Japanese name) Police Type:


This is weird because as those familiar with Cybertron know, Ransack is a two-bit street thug.So a Police redeco of him is both weird and hilarious. It's the laugh factor that makes this one my favorite

Armada Thundercracker isn't terribly weird on the face of things, omgosh a blue redeco of Starscream's mold, never saw that before, or since, but it got incredibly weird when the makers of the show messed up and decided it was an upgrade to Starscream, not a new seeker. Then on top of it had Starscream comment on how he looked like Thundercracker making for a weird minicontinuity split where the toy both is and isn't Starscream, I never actually had Armada SS (well, not until the CHUG redo) so it was my only Armada SS.

Speaking of CHUG Armada Starscream, never did I expect him to get a dayglo orange retool as Jhiaxus of all characters. But I rather liked it, even picked it up well before Starscream himself.

There's also the Banzai Tron redeco of movie Bludgeon. i don't know if that counts as more or less obscure for someone to turn a mold into than Jhiaxus. Good thing Straxus Darkmount got less obscure when he got remade into Skullgrin...

Well to be fair, all the other Powerlinx redecoes were just upgrades, and in Japan the toy was even sold as "Starscream Super Mode" rather than Thundercracker (whereas Hasbro wanted to A. retain the trademark, since Armada was about the time they discovered how badly they'd neglected that front, and B. reduce the "You already have that character" problem). The reference to him looking like Thundercracker is a bit of dub-only humor.

I think the RiD redeco of BM Jetstorm tops that one for weirdness.

Going with this, I'm going to say the upcoming Siege Lancer is the most eye-catching deco I have seen. Yes, I realize she's based on an actual character, however brief her appearance, but it still counts, because she's technically a redeco, right?

And the Unicron Trilogy had a decent amount of orange.

Orange is a weird color... and not without risk. For whatever reason some orange dyes degrade rather quickly, depending on the material it's in.

You mean Shadow Raider which according to TFWiki are Lockdowns mooks/guards who are black. A neat concept if it wasnt for the head and that the orange make it look too heroic for a mercenary car.

They could have given it as a alternate color scheme for The Last Knight Hot Rod explaining it as "He was tired of looking like he was still hiding after TLK." if they wanted.
