Damn, if this is another stolen design I'll have to pass.

Please if some are going to steal designs and make them into 3rd party toys. Can they at least steal the really good designs like Masterpiece Blitzwing. http://www.actionfigurepics.com/wp-cont ... wing-1.jpg
http://www.actionfigurepics.com/wp-cont ... wing-3.jpg
http://www.actionfigurepics.com/wp-cont ... wing-2.jpg

I was hoping at some point Igear would steal this MP Blitzwing design. then make 3rd party toys out of it. Igear did after all steal those conehead MP seekers designs. Then make 3rd party toys out of them.

At least their true to their name. Theyre Guilty of bringing almost unknown products to the people. If someone took the time to steal my uncopyrighted shapeways design and bring it to the masses Id be flattered. Id know it's time to stop sleeping on my weekend hobby and start looking for 3rd party people to invest in my talent.

Except Fakebusker83 is releasing his designs via Zenith Forge. And they weren't "investing" on the talent... They took copied the designs with the intent of mass production, without authorization from the artist.

Well in that case I agree he should be upset. I was referring to all those unknown shapeways guys who just design renders for a hobby and put it up for any fans who might want to try building one.

It's no secret I’m a supporter of the old saying "use it or lose it". If someone who was making garage kits got ripped off, I would have a little more sympathy. But someone who just designs renders for fun and puts them online with no intention of ever producing them, then what do you expect ? He might see buying the render from Shapeways as "the business" but that only attracts a small number of experienced customizers. But then those customizers put their work on TF fan sites and tease hundreds of collectors who don’t know how to customize. And these collectors are like are like "I want one". If somebody takes the initiative to bring the product to the masses, then huge risks mean huge rewards. Just my opinion. It might not be the most ethical one. But they shouldn’t make their designs public to begin with. They have the option on Shapeways to keep the designs private by listing them as "not for sale". They can order their own stock from Shapeways and sell them on a TFW2005 sales thread. If they’re too lazy to do that then they shouldn’t complain.

They're putting them on shapeways and selling them through shapeways, how does that not equal selling product?
Those customizers also show you how to make use of their kits, and others even make bulk orders on shapeways and sell ready-made kits to those unable or too lazy to follow instructions.
Shapeways lets hundreds of people get stuff almost instantaneously, you order a kit, and you get it within a few days, how does that not fall under "take the initiative to bring product to the masses"?

Oh wait I forgot, I'm talking to Rated X, the guy who claims he's "pro-creator" while never buying genuine product and only gets KOs, because that supports "the little guy".

Like I tried to explain before, Shapeways serves a very small community of customizers. I didnt even know it existed a year ago. You said it yourself, "shapeways lets hundreds of people get stuff almost instantaneously". BBTS and TF Source sells stuff to thousands of people. So there will always be a calling for the stuff from a much larger group of non-customizers. That's the big picture. I do minor customizing and painting, but not as a labor of love. Even though Im starting to get pretty good at it, I cringe eveytime I have to use a paintbrush or spray paint. And clearcoat gloss is very tricky. I applaud anyone who can give me a reason not to paint. In a perfect world, the designer of the item will be involved in it's mass production. But if he's to lazy to make it happen, at least somebodys willing to bring it to the masses.

For many shapeways is the only way to bring this to the masses since they are too small and poor to afford factories. They're not lazy, they just don't have the opportunity and the funds to do so.
Sound familiar to you? Oh right, you yourself keep saying you buy KOs since you can't afford originals.
Going by your logic, you're too lazy to be able to afford genuine products. Why should you have toys and custom toys if you're too lazy to get them? Should the original creators feel bad about that?

I can only speak for myself. If I had the knowledge to create renders that could be turned into tangible products, I would get them copyrighted (through US gov) and then shop them throughout the TF community. A good place to do that is at Botcon. All the dealers know people and have connections with 3rd party companies.

Right now were not talking about KO's. Were talking about 5 dollar shapeways pieces that I would rather pay 15 dollars for painted and sanded. I cant pay for a legit sanded/painted original if it doesnt exist, can I ???

Also, Ive heard bad things about anything from shapeways that forms moving parts.
