Well anyhow, after the negativity of the premovie era, I think alot of people where shut up when the movie actualy turned out to be good, and the toys mostly kicked ass!

I had actually been coming here way back in 06 but for certain reasons I didn’t join until November 07. The people who were whining like that about the movie stuff was probably the biggest reason I hadn’t joined until then.

I agree with CP though, some people here complain so much they start to sound like they don’t even enjoy the hobby. I mean I complain a lot about animated, but rarely do I ever say anything negative about anything previous to animated, that’s because I enjoyed everything previous to animated, and I do point out the things I like about animated.

I also hate it when people do these sort of “agree with the crowd” esc posts, its happened to me twice now that I have been chewed out because I don’t like animated as much as everyone else. One person even flamed me and said that my opinions were inferior to his because I said that Starscream looked okay and not the best thing that had ever graced my eyes.

Yikes Nekoman, I'm sorry someone was that much of a dipstick to you. That person obviously neglected to realize that not every incarnation of Transformers is going to appeal to everyone. They also didn't seem to acknowledge that someone can be a Transformers fan and not like every single line.

I think is it very much possible to be a tride and true Transformers fan and have one or two lines toywise or show wise that just don't suit your tastes. Heck, I really enjoy Beast Machines from the show standpoint. But I just truly don't care for the toys at all. Again just a personal preference not a slam on Transformers in general.

We're a broad and diverse fandom. We're always going to have varied opinions on what we like or dislike. The beautiful thing about Transformers is that there is plenty for everyone. Don't like RiD? That's fine, go buy some Beast Wars stuff. Don't like the movie line? Show some love for Classics.

I haven't liked everything about TransFormers, I can admit that. I'm not a big fan of AEC. The toys are fine, but I just couldnt get into the shows. But just because I didn't watch the shows, that didn't stop me from buying and enjoying the figures. Cybertron Prime is on my display shelf, right next to PowerMaster Prime and Masterpiece Prime.

Why do I like TransFormers? Cause there's something in it for everybody. If we all liked the same things, TFs would be a much smaller franchise. It's the diversity that keeps it going, and growing.

Cars, jets, tanks, animals, insects, whatever you want, TransFormers has it. Silly stories? Serious stories? War? Romance? Death? Time Travel? Space Travel? We got it all.

To randomly jump topic, I have to comment on Ricochet. When I first saw him, I was, like many others, somewhat let down. Then I remembered something: He's FREE. Why are we complaining about a free figure? Really, people. Don't like him? Fine, trade him off for something you want (I might trade mine actually). There was that rumour that the free attendee figure would be Megatron. Really? Did you really think they'd give us Megatron for free? I bet he's one of the Add-Ons, and probably costs a pretty penny.

Anyways, now that I've done my share of rambling, I'll let you guys get back to your own thoughts, but remember one thing:

TransFormers has been around a long time, gone through many changes, and it won't stop here. This is an ongoing franchise with a plethora of styles and products. There's something here for everyone, and that's what's great about TFs.

how i feel about tfs:

When i was a kid i used to watch the show. i bought the toys and i played with them. i had a friend. he was my best friend. we both loved TFs. what ever he wanted i had and visa versa. we shared the TFs. it was kinda like testing. if i liked the one he had i would ask for it for my b-day or christmas. i still know that guy now. we are still friends. we still go to each others houses and watch the show. we still collect we still share opinions. mt grandparents were great. they would buy anything i couldnt afford. TFs are like a window into my childhood and they r cool!!!!

Here's my 2 cents worth in reply. Lets begin with the Botcon figure Ricochet. I can actually agree that piece looks really cool, heck, I'd like to have one. It would be nice to actually go but I'm stuck unemployed but I digress here. I'm just flat disappointed he's another Autobot in a set that is turning out to be 5-on-1. 'Nuff said here.

For the most part I agree regarding the Robots in Disguise toys. They were flat awesome with complex transformations and above even that...the return of Autobots and Decepticons. The revoiced Japanese cartoon series sunk the boat for me. It was fine to watch the series in the original Japanese format but when I caught sight of the Americanized version with the messed up voicing...I shuddered in disappointment and never watched another episode. I only heard about the episodes with Fort Max, never got to see any and I would have if given the opportunity.

Ricochet was shown to little fanfare and promptly drew the wrath of everyone with an internet connection. I wasn’t thrilled myself when I looked at the toy, but I lacked enthrallment because the figure was not what I expected. I, and a great many others, did not even notice the fact that Ricochet is a really nice looking Transformer.

Personally, I haven't been impressed with this year's offerings from Botcon, either from the main set or the attendee figure. It may just be "mold fatigue" on my part, though. In any case, it just means there will be one more set/figure available for someone else.

You're becoming Seibertron's resident Columnist. Nice work with this one. I agree that there's often way too much complaining, and we are very lucky as TF fans. When I don't like something I try not to be too negative, I know what I don't like, others might, everyone has different taste.

I do agree that RiD is awesome, though I only collected the bots. I was put off by the cartoon, but maybe I'll give it another chance one of these days...

Re: For the Record, Why I like Transformers Part 1

Postby Megatron's Lapdog » Thu Mar 06, 2008 11:07 pm

I remember long long ago, when the G1 cartoon came out, and me and my brother clamored to my parents for Transformers! Transformers! Transformers! What little boy or girl wouldn't want a cool car, or gun, or plane that turned into an even cooler robot? Takara/Tomy had a good thing going, and Hasbro has obtained a goldmine that has lasted nearly 25 years now. When I opened that package on Christmas morning in 1984, and my very first Transformer turned out to be Megatron, I was instantly hooked. Of course, that poor Megatron was destroyed long ago by me and my siblings decade long Transformers/G.I.Joe/Heman house battle lol. I remember seeing the movie on the local UHF channel, and screaming "NO!" at the TV when Optimus Prime died. My interest slowly went to other things over the years after this, so I was unimpressed with Beast Wars and Beast Machines(the toys were just weird). I saw some of the RID and Armada episodes, and thought, finally the Autobots and Decepticons have returned. The cartoons nowadays are hokey, but the original G1 cartoons are pretty hokey as well, because they're made for children lest we forget. I like the new toys(well, Armada toys blow, but that's neither here nor there). The RID toys were very difficult to transform, and they did a great job making the toys look like the cartoons. The Energon and Cybertron figures took this to an entirely new level, giving us extremely good likenesses and making the cartoons come to life. The Optimus Prime/Wing Saber Sonic Wing Mode from the Cybertron series is by far the coolest transformer and/or combination ever made in my opinion(although the Galvatron/Nemesis Breaker Dark Claw mode runs a very close second). I started collecting again when my wife bought me an Armada repaint OP from the Cybertron series, and then I went out and bought the Skywarp, Blurr, and Brakedown figures when I saw them in the store, and then the Classics came out, and then the Movie figures, and well......it was downhill for my money from there. I love the new animated series, the cartoon is quite good with a lot of great G1 homages(The Lugnut/Blitzwing episode is outstanding, and the Soundwave one was extremely good too, even the Lockdown one with Arcee and Ratchet's past was excellent. I even like some of the human villain episodes). The toys are very true to form again, and all of the specials/exclusives/botcon stuff/and so on and so on are all worthy of collecting, because the ideas are fresh, the concept is still valid and interesting even after a quarter century(!!!), and any Transformer is a good transformer. I can be disappointed sometimes, but my full opinion is one of pleasure and happiness that my childhood memories are still making memories for new children the world around.

I liked RID it was great.

We got Scourge, a Megatron with 10 different alt modes, Omega Prime, a repainted FORT MAX, Rail Racer, and a whole lot of other great molds.

And my favriot part was I got my first job during RID. So unlike Beast Wars I was actually able to buy most of the molds myself what seems like all those years ago...

Great post Counterpunch, made me remember why I still had my Omega Prime and Rail Racer on display for so long.

RID Prime is perhaps my favorite Prime ever (toy wise), if not the favorite, in the top 3!

I really liked the series. I was excited that something was coming back on TFs wise that related to bots as vehicles (mostly). It was slapstick, funny, and so forth, but still enjoyable enough. I think seeing combiners on TV again really made me have my  moment. I loved seeing Rail Racer, and Bruticus back, even if his name was no longer Bruticus.

In fact, seeing these in stores really lit my fire again to collect. It was the point that marked the downfall of space in my wife's and my lives. I then soought my old toys from my parents that were hidden away in cardboard boxes in my parents basement.

And of course, one has to remember RID because if you were old enough, you also remember that fall, and it's major impact on our entire lives here in the US. Everything changed then, not just my collecting, or not collecting habits... :-(

In hindsight I feel that in the US R.I.D. was a test run for Universe
line but other than the G1, G2, BW and BM repaints and Optimus Prime all the other molds werecomplete and total crap.
The combiners were ulgy as hell and honestly they weren't fun for me to Transform. The repaints and Optimus Prime were the only good toys out that line.

The show was crap, characters like Skid-z would appear in one episode and then disapper until the last episode. Megatron/Galvarton's ultimate plan was to make kids think evil would always win over good
was LAME to put it simply.
The Kelly character was also a joke that maybe worked in Japan but in the U.S. after 3 episodes the joke got stale. Sideburn and Sky-Byte were the most annoying Transformers since Wheelie and thing was with those they were basically in EVERY freaking episode whereas Wheelie wasn't in every episode of G1 season 3.

I'll say that R.I.D. had great animation (I feel Energon and Cybertron's animation was much better and blew it out of the water)but no real sence of direction or any real great characters.

I feel that if R.I.D.'s story was told and done in a more serious way
it could have been a classic, and maybe one day a comic will come out
in that fashion but honestly I'll take the Beast Wars and Beast Machines and Unicron Trilogy over crap like R.I.D.
any damn day of week.

That's incorrect.

Universe line was brought about because Armada was selling so well they couldn't keep product on the shelves. So an easy to produce repaint line was made to make sure that retailers could maintain product levels.

Hmmm...I love Rail Racer, and think he is one of the most articulated and cool looking combiners that has been made to this time. Sure the individual bots are so so, but in the combined form... 8)

I'm not saying you can't have your opinion, I'm just saying it surprises me! And since there was a Bruticus repaint from G1 as one of the combiners, I assume you are not a big fan of the G1 combiners either.

I know that Landmine/slide/quake, whoever, was a bit difficult to transform, but the awesome possibilities that one had to customize him to his/her own liking is a pretty cool feature. If you could get him together, he was quite cool, and as individual bots they were pretty nice. Wedge is still one of my favorite molds. :D
