But...but...ah forget it. They're cool in my book. Thats all that matters. :)

However, I think one day you will come to regret having typed these words and not bought these at this great price.

I love the Ratchet and Ironhide toys. They are such telling pieces to the back-history of the Transformers that harkens back to the came before the Transformers ... Diaclone.

Of course, there's always the BotCon 2005 exclusives for those of you wanting a more traditional looking robot. However, the prices are quite expensive for both of these (in particular Ratchet).

Ok their vechicle modes are right on but their robot modes both lack a good head. Because that is a seat for the diaclone small figure to sit on at the back of the windshield. For the nostalgic factor they are both worth getting due to their great roles in the g1 cartoon. I wish they would of had a remoulded head on back of the windsheild. That might have been a big improvement over the sticker. Heck if they remoulded both Bumblebee and Jazz heads. Why couldn't they have done the same to Ratchet and Ironhide on the Encore reissue edition? Especially that they need it more. That would of been encore indeed.

Yeah, while I don't have thsoe guys, I do agree that they are some of the least accurate figures. But therein lies the problem, cause Hasbro decided to change the figure to look a bit more human without upgrading the figure, and thus deliberately made the inconsistancy. Yeah I know they probably didn't expect Transformers to be as big as it was, but that was a bit of an undersite.

The figures don't look too bad, but look more like drones than sentient robots, which I guess is what they were in Diaclone.

Hmmm...I wonder if they'll re-lease the Energon repaints under the classic line? If any bots that deserve a classic release is Ironhide and Ratchet....

The Reprolabel upgrade stickers help immensely, here's mine:

They're not for everyone but I like them.

That face sticker makes a huge difference. It makes a terrible looking toy look semi-decent.

Thanks for making me reconsider not buying these. I'll probably end up droping $70 on the two of them and buying the G1 sticker faces for them.

There's a soft spot in my heart for 'em. I can't explain it, but it's there.

I'm not sure I'll buy the Encores, but...it's nice they're becoming widely available.

I actually saw a pic of someone's kitbash that did just that. The head popped up somehow above the window to look like the cartoon version. Looked pretty decent to me. Anyone else remember it? I can't seem to find the pics now.

Myself as well. I would love to get the G1 sticker faces too. Do they make them for both Ironhide as well as ratchet? and where does one get them?

out of curiosity, where can I find the Botcon versions of the two? and how much are they?

Here's the link to the sticker set, it comes with both Ratchet & Ironhide head/face stickers:
http://reprolabels.com/Upgrades/upgrade1.asp

The Botcon Ratchet goes for at LEAST $300 and has gone for almost $600 at times. Botcon Ironhide is about $150-$200 range.

Kids today, they have no respect for the past. The Ratchet and Ironhide toys themselves are great figures, even though they barely resemble their animated forms. Those who moan and complain about how bad they look should remember that the toys came first, not the cartoon.

Dude, even when I was just 8 years old in the early 1980's when those first came out, I knew they were crap. What kind of friggin robot has no head? Okay, ya, I know, some of the diaclones, but still. Yuck. Ironhide and Ratchet got a raw deal for their toy version in the G1 line. I'm am sincerely HOPING that Hasbro does them real justice by coming out with cool Classics versions of those two poor buggers.

I know they mentioned a possibility for Ironhide and Ratchet in the Classics line at Botcon.

And as a kid I knew that the toys weren't good for the characters they represented on the show. But I found them to be really fun toys by themselves. I have a lot of love for those molds.

I'm pretty sure those came before IDW, and I'm noticing a slight resemblence:

The shoulders are a tad different, and the backpacks come over the heads more, but the general design is the same.

I do too. As G1 Optimus Prime said "Do not forget what you learn from your past. From its lessons your future is forged!"
BWOP: "Die-cast construction...It's a lost art!"

Longs for the days of G1 where we only had to worry about Megatron, Soundwave and Laserbeak wanting to be Autobots, Swoop calling himself Tracks and Slingshot calling himself Slingslot!

That is exactly the kind of ignorance that I'm talking about. Fans like this are into transformers merely because they're the latest 'in' thing, not because they appreciate Transformers collecting.

Here's my quick fix.=)

Image
Pull off heads from Cybertron Armorhide and Swerve! =)

Swerve's serves as is...with some age wrinkles under the eyes but Armorhide needs heavy coat of white spray,
and a forehead visor cut from thin plastic!

Masking the face with liquid rubber succeeded well, didn't need any touch-up after spraying.

Not quite show accurate but what G1 is.=)
Armorhide head had that stern Ratchet stare anyway..

Creepy but clever. It works pretty well on Ratchet. Why not use a 2nd Armorhide head for Ironhide as well?
