I've been really enjoying (and laughing at the silly errors in) my G1 Matrix of Leadership boxed set. I'm watching Season 2 right now and, it occurs to me, that the Season 2 intro segment animation holds up in quality to my standards for today.
Does anyone know what studio animated it?

I believe it was Toei, who still does Anime to this day.

Yup, back when the budget wasn't five bucks and a cup of coffee.

I noticed that as well G1 S2 has a much better intro then S1.
Im re watching Beast Wars at the moment... The animation on that makes me cringe more then the original cartoon

Most early CGI stuff has a certain factor of suck to it (heck, a lot of modern CGI has that too), but for its time, Beast Wars was actually pretty solidly made.

Really? I think BW's CGI is better than that of the newer shows.

In terms of CGI quality, I'd say this would be the order from best to least-best:
- Revenge of the Fallen
- 2007 movie
- Beast Machines
- Beast Wars
- Cybertron
- RobotMasters
- Energon
- RiD (it had some CGI effects here and there)

It is what it is, I sort of grew to like the look of the beast wars CGI but there something about the movement thats way to smooth that always nags at the back of my head. Its the same with most of the CGI in the Transformers cartoons.
