There are two things I like seeing in movies. Well, three things really, but I'm not going to be talking about nudity here. Robots, and monsters (Robot Monster is an awesome movie that you should look up, by the way). You'll get movies with robots, and you'll get movies with monsters, but usually the two don't meet unless you get your movies from Japan. Thankfully a man named Guellemero... Gelirmo.... Gellmero....

Guillermo del Toro noticed this discrepancy and had the resources to do something about it! Enter Pacific Rim! The greatest movie ever made! Forget Titanic, forget Lord of The Rings, forget Ben Hur. Forget other so called "great movies". Pacific Rim has a robot punching a monster in the face with a rocket propelled fist! Finally, after long years of no news, we are going to be getting a Pacific Rim 2! Along with it, new figures which are already hitting store shelves. So I figure that before I get the new Gipsy Avenger figure, I should take a look at Gipsy Danger!
There were many versions of Gipsy Danger produced by NECA toys. The first one was a bit of a dud, but further iterations proved to be much more palatable, with greater detail, greater articulation, and a plethora of accessories, spread across multiple figures (and all of them are compatible with every other version of the toy because NECA are evil geniuses).
Chain swords, plasma cannons, battle-damaged limbs, all of these were included with different versions. Mine was the Gipsy Danger 2.0, and with it came a single chain sword, two sets of hands, and a boat/club, which it used in the movie to bludgeon the **** out of the monster, Otachi. This figure is very well articulated, able to take a knee, swing it's sword, and generally look like the second best Jaeger should (first place being taken by Striker Eureka, of course).
It could be said that NECA toys makes figures that have a lot of flaws with them. The softer plastic that they're made of has a tendency to warp and stay bent in an off-angle. The harder plastic ends up being far too brittle and can snap easily if the figure is mishandled or a joint is forced to bend. That's the thing with NECA products though, they're made more for screen-accuracy and displayability rather than being toys. They're more like articulated statues in the same way that McFarlane toys are. However the difference here is that NECA has started adding in features and more articulation to their figures while McFarlane is still better at doing statues. Gipsy Danger hasn't got it all in terms of articulation, the shoulders and thighs are hindered from taking some poses, but they're just bendy enough so Gipsy can take some neat poses.
Sadly, there are things missing with this figure that I wish it came with. It could REALLY use an elbow rocket effect, as well as a tiny fishing boat that it could rescue from monsters. Fortunately I have things from my collection that can fill in for these missing items.
I don't have many figures in my Pacific Rim collection, just these four Jaegers (Tacit Ronin, Striker Eureka, Gipsy Danger, and Coyote Tango) and one Kaiju (Trespasser). It used to be two Kaiju, but unfortunately my awesome Knifehead figure took a dive off of a shelf some time ago, and his damn head broke off! P.O.'d hard because there's no way I could replace it since these things are no longer produced! Oh well, I could just glue it on I suppose.
Well, with a new movie coming out, and product already on the store shelves, I'm going to have to funnel my small action figure budget into getting me at the very least the new Gipsy Avenger figure, so that it can be stood next to Gipsy Danger, lording it's superiority over it.
I'm gonna go lord my superiority over a sandwich now.
