To take umbrage means to show offense to, and or become resentful and/or angry towards a differing opinon.

Pretty sure he was making a joke.

You see, "umbrage" means shade or shadow, and "throwing shade" means making social drama or dumping on someone for non-constructive purposes, and...oh, never mind. :P

Why does everyone seem to think that HasTak can throw out new molds at no extra cost? If they don't use a mold several times, then they make no money off of it.

That last line of yours goes against a lot of what Hasbro has done in the past. Does this mean Hasbro made no money off Leader Sentinel Prime, or animated Sentinel Prime, or HFTD Leader Starscream, or DOTM Voyager Megatron, or the recent Waspinator, Scoop, Rhinox, Brainstorm, Rattrap, Generations Minicon 3 pack and on and on and on.

(Some more stuff)

What I meant by that is that it isn't that good of a business desicion to make a mold if they only use it once or twice. Naturally, they would try to use molds several times to offset the costs of making said mold. Why else did they take already existing toys and slap new colors on them?

I get you but I wanted to point out that they could still be economically fine by doing unique molds like they did last year. We were even ok with them puling this retool deal this year but it seems it extends to next year with the only truly new molds announced are Skylynx and Brawl. By making every single mold reused multiple times it kind of crosses the line between business savy and downright greedy. Takara just announced an Optimus Primal Masterpiece toy as well as a Leader Class RID/TAV Optimus and these are two inhouse molds that dont seem to be made to be reused. And you dont see them perish and go bankrupt.

They're disappointed with Blast Off being a mere redeco of Quickslinger aka Slingshot. Yes, that's what we're actually getting, a redeco of this guy:

Remember, everyone, when Hasbro saves money with releases of repaints and retools, that puts more money in their war chest to take "risks" later on down the line and bring us new molds, even one-shot molds. 2016 may be starting off with "more of the same," but could end with some very nice surprises. And if not in 2016, then in 2017, we should be seeing some "genuinely" new stuff.

Also, as a counter point to "what about the leader class molds in the live action movie lines," consider this. Very few of those have been released only once. Even molds like leader Starscream and Ironhide have been reused as part of the Transformers GDO line up in 2012. In fact, the only leader mold that I can think of that has been used once and only once is Sentinel Prime.

The thing that's the most disappointing about Blast Off is that it's so close to being good. The Fireflight head would have been great on him and that would have let Hasbro give Blast Off the same body but instead they just gave him the stupid Slingshot head. They could have at least modded it to have a mouth plate.

That would have been hilariously awesome. I agree, Cybertron needs more recognition.
But back on topic, I'm sure it won't be too hard to pull the pin out of Skylylx and unscrew the components apart.

I have a feeling that it may not be too late to course correct on this matter. Blast Off, at least from Hasbro, is going to be a jet one way or another, but it looks like what they have on display at BotCon is a hand-painted prototype. If we all start voicing our concerns to Hasbro NOW, they may be able to respond and at least use the Fireflight version of the mold instead for its more compatible head sculpt (as compared to Slingshot). We're not asking for a new mold, or even a different mold, so much as an alternate version that we know they already have and have used. It's a shame, because BotCon is usually a great time to voice such concerns, but let's not that stop us from at least trying.

Also, while were at it, let's get them to fix Pipes' face. Since when has it been completely red? I can live without the mouthplate (being that it's a straight up Huffer repaint), but at least make his face silver with red eyes, like it is on the original G1 toy AND cartoon. Geez, Hasbro.

Hey all,

I want as many G1 accurate-looking characters as anyone else.
My thoughts of this Blast Off-- Yes, a completely, distinctly new mold with a space shuttle alt mode would've been really cool.
But in the grand scheme, from what I'm seeing of the bot mode, is this mold making him look that bad??
I really would like a better, more character accurate head mold... But I'm not complaining-- it's just the one thing I'd change.
But having said that... You can't really blame Hasbro for using Slingshot's head since they went through the extra steps/trouble to make it.

I'll be honest, I'm REALLY surprised there aren't more complaints about a lot of those "new" Autobots.

Anyway, I can totally handle the re-use of this mold for the following reasons:
1. It still looks decent, and definitely fits the Combaticon team.
2. There is a new mold being used for one of the limbs, and it looks freaking awesome.
3. The "Alpha Bravo" mold gets it's originally intended use for Vortex.
4. There's a ton of re-tooling for the Onslaught figure.
5. I know this will sound old and lame, but we all know what the re-using of molds potentially does for future releases...
I am one who is still waiting for an updated Hasbro Predaking, which will require 5 completely new molds-- I'm going to guess that IF these ever get made, they would be molds that would be very difficult to re-use for other characters.
But this Blast-off is just one more figure that increases the chances of this dream becoming reality.

How do we know this? It is the standard mold used for the Takara version and it's not like Quickslinger was so exclusive afterall, he was at the website of Walmart, TRU and Target, that doesnt sound so exclusive to me.So if you look at the Takara release, the Quickslinger mold is being used while for Hasrbo there is the option of Alpha Bravo and Quickslinger. It seems in the grand scale of it all, there is already a great use of the Quickslinger head without needing to reuse it. That headsculpt is now shared by more Transformers than the upcoming wheeljack, so I really dont buy that last bit.

I still think its to give the team some, if minor, differentiation. think about it at least 3 of the G1 team had almost no face (onslaught, vortex, blast-off) without a media to give them a character - since I don't read the comics to know if bruticus is here/coming - giving them a face helps add character to them. That's not to say that they couldn't have given B/A a visor and a scowl though, that would have been unique from everyone in the line.
I am not a G1 fan, please treat my opinions as such.

Are you kidding?!? :BOOM: A generic quadruped based of Skydive or air-raid would yield a ton re-uses. I don't know everyone off the top of my head, but if there were animal legs attached to the leg shells of the bot legs and the arms were super ball jointed and the robot head folded into a swappable beast head on the same strut the combiner port uses, they could pound out an abominus in a couple of days probably. :APPLAUSE:

the arms could be wings (windrazor), they could be arms (blue troll guy), the animal head could be redone into the spinosaur looking guy, the robot mode legs could have sinnertwins necks attached to the heels; Predaking could be done up easily with this method too, maybe even monstructor (he was quite small with indistinct beast modes >:oP )

It is very possible. A new "shell" that resembles an animal with the legs and arms just sprawled out in animal 4 legs style or up on 2 for "troll monster" mode. It could work. anything is possible around that combiner peg chest. :BOT:

I want as many G1 accurate-looking characters as anyone else.
My thoughts of this Blast Off-- Yes, a completely, distinctly new mold with a space shuttle alt mode would've been really cool.
But in the grand scheme, from what I'm seeing of the bot mode, is this mold making him look that bad??
I really would like a better, more character accurate head mold... But I'm not complaining-- it's just the one thing I'd change.
But having said that... You can't really blame Hasbro for using Slingshot's head since they went through the extra steps/trouble to make it.
.

First off, I meant Quickslinger... I'm also watching the SKC RSL game.

That figure isn't really exclusive, but that wasn't part of my point.
I don't think it's the best choice of head sculpt.
Either way, re-using parts makes sense.

Man, I really wish these boards disabled pictures in quotes.

This makes me wonder: at what point is a mold paid off? Some never get repaints, others get five or more, some only get repaints as exclusives... the average seemed to be 2 uses.
I also wonder what effect these heavy retools have had. I mean, some of them might as well be a 2nd mold altogether. Perhaps they are?

I don't necessarily mind repaints (in fact the BotCon reveal I'm looking forward to most is one: Chop Shop), but they feel like they're dominating this line. Doesn't help that you're encouraged to buy 5-6 figures at a time, but it's kinda ridiculous you can't even complete 2 sets without getting at least one double.

Dude, slow down, we have sdcc in, like, 3 weeks (though I'm betting they reveal the Victorion toy/3d model) we've already seen the first 2 of (assumed) 4 combiner teams (titan class and such don't count) there's a chance we won't see computron (if victorion is 3 of 4) until n.y. toy fair next year.

The reason I say Victorion is next is b/c she should be standard release like Windblade, and she crosses over with the sdcc fembots (if I'm not mistaken) so that could be a nice parallel reason to reveal her.
I am not a G1 fan, please treat my opinions as such.

Wolfman Jake wrote: If we all start voicing our concerns to Hasbro NOW, they may be able to respond and at least use the Fireflight version of the mold instead for its more compatible head sculpt (as compared to Slingshot). We're not asking for a new mold, or even a different mold, so much as an alternate version that we know they already have and have used. It's a shame, because BotCon is usually a great time to voice such concerns, but let's not that stop us from at least trying.

Dear Hasbro:

Please please please PLEASE use the Firefly head instead of the Quickslinger head for the upcoming Blast-Off figure. I'm totally okay with him being a jet fighter instead of a space shuttle, that makes sense. But I would really appreciate a more accurate head for him.

Sincerely,
