Re: Hasbro Press Event Coverage: First Images of Transformers: Age of Extinction Optimus Prime!
Well, I guess I could forgive losing his chest windows ... IF they hadn't given Prime lips ... and changed the color of the truck to blue... and added flames... and given him the line "give me your face" ... and...
Nope. No forgiveness left.
Fresh out.
But yeah, all the movie characters get so generic looking because you can't see the vehicle parts in the robot mode. (compare with Masterpiece Prowl, for instance.) This looks like any ole action figure — or often in the movie, they look like just a mass of gray parts moving around. It's hard to even tell them apart.
In short, I think Bay knows how to make amazing, eye-popping ACTION movies (albeit mighty generic ones), but can't make a TF movie respectful of the brand, history, and characters. It's a hodgepodge of too many styles and sources... with a side helping of racist/potty humor.
Ah well. BUT back on the positive. Truck mode looks pretty. And if they bring back Cullen (and hopefully Welker and Berger), that will be a huge victory in the midst of many flops, IMHO. Cullen has shined with amazing, resounding, chilling, kind and heart-felt performances in the three films. I have to give that man a respectful tip of the cowboy hat. (I might have to buy a cowboy hat to do it, but you get my drift.) If he is involved, I know I will still go see the film... even in spite of the missing chest windows.

Prime's windows are his signature. Can you think of Starscream without the cockpit? Megatron helmetless or without his arm-gun? A non-yellow bumblebee? Remember why Movie Wheeljack was not popular? Yep, they did mess with his helmet...

At first I was going to laugh at you all for complaining about this since it looks like a Voyager with chromed stuff, the hell can you complain about that?
But then I actually read the article and realized this is supposed to be the Leader Class ...
I mean, the excuse of, well this is a new design doesn't really cut it like it did for TF07 Leader Prime, damn this is pretty bad.

His head design seems to be moreso than his chest windows, since there have been many many many Optimus toys that lacked th chest windows but still made the head design a priority.saucerdo wrote:Prime's windows are his signature.
Yup.saucerdo wrote:Can you think of Starscream without the cockpit?
Helmetless? Well, every TF has always had a helmet, regardless of their shape. But if you mean Megatron with a different, non-bucket-shaped helmet, then yes indeed. Very easily.saucerdo wrote:Megatron helmetless or without his arm-gun?
Same without the arm gun.
He was just black in a mainstream series, so definitely.saucerdo wrote:A non-yellow bumblebee?
Yet, they renamed him to go with his less-Wheeljacky looks.saucerdo wrote:Remember why Movie Wheeljack was not popular? Yep, they did mess with his helmet...

am kinda glad he looks so crappy-- with the back kibble and all. It means im not gonna have to "shell" out hard-earned cash for him. Last movie sucked and so did the toy line. I only wanted megatron from DSOTM and he was misassembled and broken rite outta the box. generations forever!

Some sites don't hotlink well, it shows for you because it's still in your cache. If you cleared your cache or used a different browser, you might see how it doesn't work.

Yeah, I'd strongly encourage against hotlinking most site images if one wants the best guarantee of their pics showing up.

Not sure why you would even want to hotlink images from other sites when we have perfectly good images here. Hell, we even give you the BB code. I realize you were going for cartoon images but toy images work fine as well.

At first i didn't like the design, but then i realized a couple things...
First (like most have mentioned), this seems to be mis-transformed as its just meant to give us a preview of the figure.
Second, while i may not agree with it, i know one of the biggest complaints of the leader class movie figures have been how complicated the transformations have been. Leader class ROTF Optimus Prime was one of the best Prime figures ever made, but I remember seeing plenty returned to various toy stores half way transformed. A buddy that worked at Walmart said parents were returning them because it was to complicated for there kids. Now whether you like it or not, kids are still roughly 85% of the movie toys sales so it makes sense to cater to them than collectors. So unfortunately, there gain will be our loss.
I really like the truck mode though. Looks pretty accurate. I'll wait to give full judgement until we see a full gallery or at least until we see some final figures closer to the movie release date.

According to Optimus holding a giant glowing sword. Whether or not they bring any of the star saber mythology to the table or not is another issue entirely.

And, if it were the Star Saber, wouldn't it make sense for the official press release that usually uses such official IP terms to call it that instead of just a generic "sword"?
