If you want a smaller unicron then I suggest getting one of the many versions of Armada Unicron.
I just don't get what compromises would be made for a smaller version. It just doesn't make sense to me. We've seen so many molds in multiple scales, even by Hasbro themselves. It wouldn't change anything for me if he was a little more hollow, didn't come with a stand, etc. I just don't care to have him be so big, at a certain point it's just past the size of something I want. It doesn't have to be the exact same mold either, or have the same level of detail. Primus still looks fantastic to me, and he's inches smaller than a Titan. If we got a commander class Unicron out of nowhere, some people would be upset he's not a titan, but many would still be thrilled to have him, me included.
EDIT: Sorry for the double post!
Hi,
First off: a smaller version of Unicron is a compromise. I want my Unicron to be the biggest transformer. When I bought my Armada Unicron in 2002 it was my largest figure (I didn't have Fort Max) and I was happy with his size at the time. Since I got Fortress Maximus (G1) I've been hoping for a larger Unicron so it can take the title of the biggest Transformers Figure.
I like it when the toys represent the fiction: The toys don't have to match the scale, but I'd like them to represent the fiction sizes. In the case of Unicron: The largest Toy should represent the Largest Transformer. Another example would be the Superion and Jetfire toys. The original G1 Jetfire was the same size as the G1 Superion and Jetfire was heavier and more bulky: the toys didn't represent the fiction and I would have prefered Superion to be larger. Another exampled is that Bumble Bee should be smaller than Optimus Prime.
There's already a Unicron that's smaller than Titan Class and larger than Commander class. It was orignaly sold 17 years ago and there hasn't been a large figure created since then.
It's a great figure and there's no reason to buy another Unicron unless there's something special a new figure brings. I'd be on the fence about buying a new Unicron figure that's just a Titan.
Second
I'm not sure why I see people assuming that Hasbro will just make another smaller Unicron toy. That's not an option available to the customer. Maybe it'll exist, but until Hasbro says it's a thing it's not an assumption I'm willing to make and I shouldn't be an assumption that anyone else makes. 1 bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush: we have 1 option now, any future options are conjecture or fairy-tale.
To make a smaller unicorn based on the existing model they'll have to shrink down the pieces, 3d print them and test the figure.
So there's more work to do before they get to the mold production. And, we can't assume Hasbro wants to go this route.
Think of it from Hasbro's point of view: if less than 8000 people want to buy this figure and the current Titans aren't selling very well then why would Hasbro commit anymore resources to produce a toy that less than 8000 people in the entire world wanted.
When there's a perfectly good 17 figure that they can just repaint and people will buy; that there's a market for then why produce another one.
This figure, is the one chance Hasbro is giving us to buy a newly designed Unicron figure.
People need to drop the assumption that if this haslab fails Hasbro will ever produce another Unicron figure within their lifetime. Armada Unicron was produced 16 years after Transformers the movie after prototype failures from the 80's.
It's now 17 years after Armada Unicron. This haslab Unicron is this generations Unicron. And it's still another 1.5 year out after backing. I would guess if this Unicron doesn't get backed it'll be 3 years minimum until a new Unicron is available in some form and it could be another 15 years if ever. This is hasbro saying here's your chance at the fandom's dream Unicron figure, and if you don't buy it who knows.
I'm not sure I'd buy a titan sized unicron, I want my next unicron to be the biggest figure.
Also, update Hasbro really wants this figure to be produced and sold. It's giving the fandom and other month 10/6/2019 to fund it!
