Armada all the way, man! It's the ORIGINAL first Unicron to have ever been released and he's awesome. Plus he's now relatively cheap and easy to come by because of all the other "better" versions. I'd say get the Armada. In PERFECT condition. Don't get a cheapo junker for a Unicron Shrine. Then you'll need one more of that mold in "special" colors. The Amazon, the 2010, the Green Energon, the evil black. Then there's Ark Unicron, the deluxe spaceship that is cheap. and finally, the weird Prime Arms Micron who transform into his own head.
To go with an Armada Unicron mold, you'll need a Throne of Chaos (if you can find it) or something similar to make the planet mode GLORIOUS!
I was actually talking about getting duplicate Cyclonuses (Cycloni?) to make him an armada, but I actually am planning on getting an Energon Unicron to go with my G2 (TLK) Cybertron. One of my friends growing up had the Armada version, and I've wanted one ever since. I saw one in-box a few years back at a local used game store, and I regret passing it up. Was planning on going after one of the G1 versions if the WfC version doesn't get funded, but I was scared off by the reports of mold degradation.

I know what you mean. As if they purposefully made the deadline too short and the current one is the real one.
Lo and behold, when the deadline will be almost over in October, there will still be around 1K backers missing and they'll extend the deadline yet again to the end of November. This would be Haslab Unicron's final chance. The deadline cannot go to December because of the Holidays season.
Chances that I commit are very slim. CAN1000$+ yet again for another toy is too much. Hasbro must push for an incredible last minute incentive for me to finally pull the trigger for real.

Black Hat wrote:Personally, aside from the basic colours being completely wrong, I'd like that lovely sculpted detail to be properly picked out with paint. Even minor things like the inner mouth of planet mode being painted silver would help. Some kind of metallic recess painting like the old Armada figure would be nice too. He's got all that greebling and detailed sculpting but it's all unpainted, and for the price they're asking I'd expect OG RID Sky-Byte levels of painted details.

Honestly, the colors look more closer to the old 1986 Hasbro toy prototype that was very yellow and very blue, rather than the orange-gold and bluish gray that Unicron was in the movie.megatronus wrote:Black Hat wrote:Personally, aside from the basic colours being completely wrong, I'd like that lovely sculpted detail to be properly picked out with paint. Just like the face, there were multiple versions of the color palette. The movie had both. The cartoon was primarily the yellow-orange & blue-grey.
To say the colors are completely wrong is objectively... wrong.

Ideally, I would have loved for the colors of this one to have been more of a halfway compromise between the shades of the Welcome to TF 2010 one and the Amazon one. Less orange/gray than the Takara one, but less yellow/blue than the Hasbro one.megatronus wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Honestly, the colors look more closer to the old 1986 Hasbro toy prototype that was very yellow and very blue, rather than the orange-gold and bluish gray that Unicron was in the movie.megatronus wrote:Black Hat wrote:Personally, aside from the basic colours being completely wrong, I'd like that lovely sculpted detail to be properly picked out with paint. The colors are a very 'whatever' debate - there's justification across multiple mediums for any given palette.
I'm not sure why people are fussing about it - if you look at the Welcome to 2010 vs. Amazon Unicrons, both are valid color schemes. I prefer the Amazon one myself; I find that Unicron's (and HasLab's) to be somewhat more dynamic and visually striking. The saturated orange + grey strikes me as much more bland and less interesting. But again, that's a personal preference - not a statement of fact or supposing that something is 'wrong'.

I think we can all agree on THAT -

I like your idea to get a second Cyclonus. I did something similar: I bought a used G1 Cyclonus years ago and recently I purchased a CW Cyclonus. I did the same thing with Scourge: 2 G1 versions and 4 TR versions.
A few other ideas for you that I have: Razorclaw (universe tigerhawk repaint), Blackarachnia(universe BM Blackarachnia repaint), Fallen (Titanium), Thrust (Armada), Sideways (armada), Nemesis Prime (armada), and Minicons (Armada). Those are just what I have, there's also PotP Rodimus and PotP Nemesis Prime.
Good luck on your quest.

We may see some of those things eventually. The figure won't even be released until Q1 of 2021, so we're a good year and a half away from the final product right now. You also need to consider that part of the "premium" of Unicron's price comes from the year and a half long R&D that led up to the crowdfunding announcement (plus any more that comes after the project is approved), the amount and quality of plastic to make a figure this size and make sure it is structurally sound and can withstand the dreaded "drop test," the "made-to-order" limit of the production run, and the sheer amount of human labor needed to assemble a figure this massive and intricate at the factories. Plus, shipping it from overseas will probably be a bear because of the weight involved versus the relative volume.

I know all that. But I'll be buying an almost 1000$CAN thing around two years in advance that I have no certainty of what it will finally be. That's one hell of a gamble.
