I'm OK with teeth on Transformers, especially Unicron of all 'bots. Though I think the particular art style of the faces matters.

It’s not really G1 accurate per se but I don’t mind the teeth too much it gives it some cool detail and it definitely looks like you can fit a few Titan Masters in there

I could totally see whole interchangeable heads for the different iterations. I wouldn’t be shocked if that was one of the features.

It is that weird humanisation that some writers, artists (and fans) can't seem to break away from. They are not people. You can give a wide variety of expressions to the standard Cybertronian face without making them look too human. Adding teeth, eyebrows etc to their designs just starts to look like catering to a fetish. The same one that oversexualises certain Fem-Bot designs.

Given that, would you find yourself more a fan of (or more ok with) that G1 liquid-metal-ish face or do you like the movie version where it’s multiple panels and layers shifting that makes the facial expressions?

I was always ok as a kid with Alpha Trion’s beard I just took it for granted and honestly probably didn’t think about it too much till I was older.

Exactly Stargrave kids don't care that the robots have teeth or facial hair, they just roll with it. They accept without question (as long as it fits their definition of cool of course)

I don't care if a tf has teeth or not personally.

^ Funnily enough when you think about who the most iconic Transformers are, most of them RE Prime, Soundwave, Grimlock etc barely have regular eyes, let alone mouths with teeth

I tend to go for option C, the context sensitive, situational faces of Beast Wars. Wherein your altmode doesn't just determine your outer shell, but is reflected throughout your entire aesthetic. Some characters have mouths, teeth, no mouths, no eyes etc But as long as it is consistent with their overall design.

When I was a kid I didn't bat an eye at Cyclonus with his eyeliner or Scourge with his pink nails. Which in hindsight were really strange aesthetic decisions that didn't seem to have any reason to be

Bayformers were overdesigned nonsense, for the most part. I've read many devils advocate responses to their designs. Some people rationalising that, that is what a more alien-centric Transformers design would look like. From someone with a background in art and design, that to me is just a load of Cesium salami, for the layman to buy into.

I do wonder if there is more to kids liking that design, afterall kids dig Knights in full armour and those designs with the mouth plate do seem to come across as inspired by depictions of full Samurai armour (which is also amazingly cool)

I've also met many layman who have been perfectly acceptive of the bay movie designs. I think it all falls under preferences.

It’s funny I look up and I see Optimus, Soundwave, Shockwave. I also love the takes that lean away from, shoot, would we call it anthropomorphism maybe? At least the less human more beastly or oddly shaped characters and their quirks always appealed to me just as much as a clean lined Rodimus. Skylynx is just as elegant as he is completely awkward and bazaar and monstrous.

I finally placed my TFSource pre-order. I wanted to do it on Pulse, but it was simply impossible with things happening this month.

but I am officially backing it now. And while it is more, it gives me 16 months to save. And if it makes it, it will be released right at my birthday it seems, so some more justification to wait to pay until then!

Has anyone read through those Instagram questions? Wow. I need alcohol.

I mean some of these are cerebral gems on par with historically poignant questions like “why y’all so dumb”.

Anyone ever been in a work meeting and the new guy asks a question that’s way off topic for like the third time in a row and you just know they’re never gonna pass probation? Like you’re just having a meeting about donut Friday’s and they keep making accusations about the Fluoride in the water and wanting to know when we can work towards no longer being cogs in the capitalist machine? Reading some of these gives me that same feeling in my stomach.

The closest I've gotten is: everytime someone complains about the price or scale of the largest transformer ever given the largest transformer toy ever, take a shot of a watered down wine cooler.

All this back and forth talk about teeth has compelled me to remind everyone here that the teeth on this Unicron are completely optional. They can be folded out and visible for a toothy look or folded in and hidden away for a toothless look.

Was just thinking of possible features and thinking of the movie; it’d be kinda neat if he had removable battle damage armor plates and even limbs to recreate the end of the movie where he gets Matrixed. Just like what other scenes could you emulate. I still want it to eat Titan Masters. And have a base mode. But I want everyone to have a base mode. I mean if childhood tag taught me anything it’s that if a person could perpetually be on base they would be utterly unstoppable.

If there was one feature i wish he had, it would be an acid vat. Otherwise I'm not overly attached to any other gimmick he might have.
