HELP !!!!! 360 Red light Hard Drive Failure
Is there anyway to fix a hard drive when it fails? Or can I at least recover the info? If there's no way to recover it I've lost 17 gigs of stuff including purchases!!!!!

You do know that what you've purchased if recorded with your x-box live account thingy. So even if you have to get a new hard-drive, you won't have to repay for purchases over again.

There's a tutorial online, that shows you how to remove the casing so you can pull out the drive itself. It's a standard hard drive, nothing super fancy. You could connect it to your computer, try and save the files to a DVD (temporarily), and defragment and scan the disc to recover bad sectors. If that doesn't work, you might even be able to format the drive, put your files back on it, and reconnect it to the XBox like nothing happened.
TheMuffin has the link to the tutorial. He's your best friend in a situation like this.
EDIT: Got the link. http://www.xboxchopshop.com/catalog/man_360_open4.php

If it is out of warranty I'd love to pull it apart and mess with it. I actually have yet to do that. Taken the controller and system apart completely, but never the hard drive.

I pulled every friggin screw out of my controller to give it a custom paint job and I still could not get it apart. There's something holding it together and I couldn't tell what. So instead of breaking my $40 controller I just put it bak together until i get my hands on a broken one.

There is a screw under the sticker in the battery compartment, which is the one that i reckon you missed for it to be still held together.
It could also be worse you could sent it off for repair and get it returned still broken or get a broken refubished machine like me and my brother did

The same thing that happened to me must've happened to you. We experienced the lesser cause of the Red Ring.
Do you have the Intercooler hooked up to your 360, by chance? Because that causes lesser Red Ring. You see, the Red Ring not only flashes when your console is dead. It also happens when the power chord comes loose.
The Intercooler isn't very good for holding the power chord in place, and therfore it sometimes slips off. The console assumes it has crashed and uses its last drop of energy to flash the Red Ring.
It's times like these that make me wonder how many people sent in their Red Ring'd 360s when all that happened was the power chord fell out.
Mashed potatoes can be your friends!

After hearing Muffin talk about how easy it is to repair a busted one, etc...I decided to do a little research and surprisingly...the power system is the biggest problem when it comes to the 3rlod (three red lights of death) and it could be as simple as fixing the plug, or replacing the power unit, internally. Apparently you can buy a no name piece that will replace it and work, from Radio Shack, for a very low cost.
I do wonder how many people just hit the panic button and sent it in....

Ok so as to clear up the air here. I looked up the specific error code and it was due to my HD not the power. I actually pulled my HD off and it worked fine. So I put it on and took it off several times restarting it every time with and without. It did nothing still. So I left it and went to bed the next day I checked it it worked fine and has worked since.

Freaky. Gotta love those odd flukes. And Autobot32, that's actually the first time I've heard of it being caused by the power. Though I have replaced one of those as well.

Weird. I had read about a post on a message board where one of the biggest complaints was the power supply. I can't remember what the link was...crap.
This is why depending on Google is becoming too much of a crutch. =\

I've actually had that happen with the Intercooler thingy. All I did was just make sure all the connections were good & start it up again...worked fine.
Well, there was also the one time I had to have it sent off to get fixed, right Muffin??

You have to stop changing your sig. There are too many 'Nemesis' folks for me to remember them by name. How's it working by the way?

Pretty well, actually. I've had some issues with loading the Transformers game, but from what I hear that's a problem with the game itself. Everything else works just fine on it. The only real problem I'm having now is I'm running out of room on my hard drive from all the live arcade games I've got on it.TheMuffin wrote:Nemesis Cyberplex wrote:I've actually had that happen with the Intercooler thingy. Oh, & as far as the sig is concerned...it's really not much different than my last one. Grimsqueaker's been doing that project of his where he's been drawing characters people request...I just had him do one of the evil metroplex sig I had, & Justicity made a sig based off of the drawing. I'm particularly fond of the stepping on Trypticon detail.
