By "getting ready to sell" do you mean you're about to make him known to the world to make offers on? Or do you already have a buyer lined up, you're just finalising details?
I can't help on the shipping questions, but I will drill you about the condition, completeness, availability and cost of your Fort Max.

I've already got a buyer lined up who has already made me and offer and examined it's condition which is excellent. It's the shipping part i'm concerned about as i've never ship something like this before.

I shipped one a few years ago. Just get a sturdy box. I'd suggest going to a liquor store and see if they have any of the boxes used to ship larger volumes of liquids, as they are typically thicker cardboard, or just go to the UPS store and get a sturdy box.
I'd also suggest transforming him some, so he is in the most square and small shape he can be, and remove any parts and pieces you can and wrap them individually.
Then just pack him nice and tight, and keep at least 2 inches of packing material between max and the outside of the box.

I also sold a fort max a few years back,...I did all the above mentioned for shipping (transforming him into the smallest cube-like form he could get, small parts off, etc etc)
One other thing I did though, was before I packed him in, I put Styrofoam that I got for free from the Lowe's that I worked at the time (you can just stop pretty much anywhere and ask them if you can have the stuff before they throw it away) I lined the bottom, sides and top with sheets of the stuff.
I also Encases him inside of a black garbage bag just so none of the Styrofoam would get inside of him,...probably a useless thing to do, but I have OCD i think haha.
then I just filled it with newspaper and packing peanuts and called it a day

See if you can put Fort Max in a box that was close to the size of his original box and then put him into another box with the brown paper filling surrounding it. That's what this guy did with Brave Max when he shipped it to me and it was shipped safely. I would put fragile stickers on the box too.

It probably goes without saying, but with something big and expensive and semi-fragile like this, make sure and get the shipping insurance.
