Figma Robocop anyone?

Do you collect other toys besides Transformers? Maybe you've got a Masters of the Universe collection you'd like to show off, or maybe you like Thundercats, Voltron, G.I.Joe, Power Rangers, Star Wars, Wrestling, or any of the various comic book toy lines. Please keep the discussions here to non-Transformers toy lines.

Figma Robocop anyone?

Postby Pontimax 01 » Mon Nov 14, 2011 6:04 pm

I finally got my long awaited Robocop today. I haven't had a Robocop since I was a kid and I played with the original toy of him that featured a built in cap gun that I never seemed to have cap strings for. Ah, that was a fun toy. I went thru like 3 or 4 of him as I liked to recreate his battle damage with tiny screwdrivers and hammer blows.

So I was pretty excited about this guy. I also have the NECA coming, for a bit of uh... battle damage himself (some things never change!).

Anyway, a few pics.

Buuut, I am somewhat disappointed with him. His biggest failing is the crotch piece that rattles around like he's wearing some kind of baggy robo swim trunks over his real crotch. I currently have him disassembled and am trying to figure out if I can stop some of this. Pretty sad that I've had him less than an hour and I've got him all apart. Oh well.

Image

Kind of hard to make out what I'm talking about in a picture. I should post a movie of how much it moves around. Really is a shame. Going to try a transformer mending trick on him though.

Other biggest fail is the face. Or lack of. If my 1980's big brand toy company figure had a face under the helmet, why doesn't this one!? It's like the creepiest thing I have seen.

Image

See, if he had Murphy's face..

Robocop 2 anyone?

He's a neat enough figure. Just not worth the 56 bucks I paid for him from BBTS. If he had a face, the crotch piece was better, and his hips weren't kinda wonky, he'd be really nice. I await my NECA to compare him to and to administer some punishment to.

I haven't heard about this figure. Interesting.

I have the McFarlane figure from a few years ago. Great sculpt but as with all McFarlane figures, you can't play with it. It's a mini-statue.

Does the NECA figure allow RoboCop to store his gun in his thigh?

Nope, the NECA doesn't have the holster or a removable helmet. But he is a bit bigger I believe. This one is six IIRC and NECA is 7 inches. BBTS seems to be in an indefinite holding pattern with the NECA figure as well. He's available all over, Amazon, Ebay, I've heard Toy'R'Us, but BBTS can't seem to fill my preorder.

Update for you Supreme.

I got the NECA Robocop at Toys R Us today for 15.99.

Here's pics next to the Figma figure.

He's a good deal bigger. But his sculpt is far less advanced looking. His paint is noticeably less shiny and consistent looking. In fact, I had to carefully pick him off the shelf to get a decent one. The other two both seemed to have some issues, like one had his helmet glued on wrong, exposing more of the face then it should have. The other had some really bad blotches of paint on the helmet. This one is about right in all regards except for some over-sprayed silver inside the black joints.
His articulation is not as good. In the pics, I have his gun arm swung all the way out as if trying to shoot 90 degrees off body center, but he can only manage 60 degrees or so. So he can't fire in that famous robo pose. He's severely limited at the elbows with only a small amount of movement upward. In the pics, that's as far up as his elbow can bend to his bicep. Then he has a forearm swivel to move his hand around. Only one hand will hold the gun. He only comes with one arm to change out, and that's the data spike (vs 8 other wrists for the Figma). And to be honest, his head seems strangely tall and skinny. But he does have really good head movement because of it, better then the figma to be honest. Helmet does not come off. No hip holster for the auto 9, which seems very two dimensional compared to the figma. It's very thin to look at it head on or top to bottom. Quite nice from the side view though.

So here's a few more pics to compare. Note that his stance is completely maxing out his arm articulation at both the right shoulder angle and the left elbow angle. The figma out performs this quite easily.

Now I will admit parts of his sculpt are very good. I think his chest plate is more accurate overall. His upper thighs are not bad at all. The lower torso isn't even bad. But next to the figma he's outclassed just about each way. Of course the consolation is that he's only about a third the price or so.

If you gotta get a robocop and don't want to spend a lot, $15.99 is a pretty good bargain for him. If you want the better version, the Figma is worth the extra money IMO, even though is smaller. I like having both, the NECA is going to be my battle damaged Robo.

I have the figma one but haven't had a chance to open it. I'm sure by now you know that Neca released a final version of RoboCop with a working holster. I have that one and it's nice. The problem with the head/face is once that helmet is off you run into issues with the actors likeness which NECA nor Figma were able to secure.

Got the regular NECA version, and i think it's the cat's meow. I was considering the Figma version, but after the comparison pics, I'll pass.
Thanks for the photos BTW

I have the NECA version. Wish it would have the pop out holster.....kind of off topic.... I saw a History channel program, or I think it was History Channel, on Netflix about Egyptian pharaohs, and Peter Weller was doing most of the narrating......sweet..

There is a NECA version with the pop out holster. It's the final version.

The Figma one is designed to be comparable to other figma figures in terms of articulation. The NECA one is closer to the amount of articulation the suit actually had.
