You summed it up. The movie looks great visually but is formulaic. I appreciate that you collect plenty of figures and shelve them nicely for display.
In future films, I hope that the formula is not so blatant. They should realise that Unicron is not just a simple planet-eater. He must have fleets of minions. Also, he fights on a spiritual level.
