The Argument for Soundwave - THE GREATEST

There is more to Transformers than movies, cartoons, comics and toys. Discuss anything else Transformers here.

I actually found Soundwave kinda boring. He's never really wowed me. He has a great voice and all, but yeah... The guy never did it for me.

Now, having said that, did the addition of the tapes (or the Cassetticons) make him more popular?

Okay, there really wasn't a time when he did not have his cassettes, that I remember. The show started with him and his cassettes were always there, same in the comic, and yes, the toy even came with them...

So I am wondering what you mean, with the addition of his cassettes?

You've got your opinions and I've got mine, that's fine and dandy. I can even SEE where to the lesser fan, Soundwave might not be all that exciting, but he's actually got a lot more to his personality than meets the eye.

He may be thoughtlessly loyal to Megatron and he may seem like just a dispenser of gadgetry via his tapedeck and minions that deploy out to perform random duties, but he is more than that.

He created Energon Cubes for use on Earth. He designed ships and bases, and he could micromanage about 5 different other robots at once, all while recording spy data for later use by Megatron. He brought Skyfire back to life be jolting him with an unspeakable amount of voltage which no other Decepticon could do, and he keeps doing all of these jobs as he is never once thanked or shown the smallest bit of appreciation past the dismissive "Good Job, Soundwave". But he gets NO glory and does most of the work.

All the while Starscream is blabbering and bantering on in his own name to his own accomplishments that are more shallow than his own cockpit.

Say if...he never had his cassettes, or if they were introduced into the series at a later time. I was just wondering if they could've increased his popularity. Nothing but a hypothetical situation.

It seems I've struck a cord with you, AncientSpark. If I had known you would've reacted this way, I wouldn't have posted in your topic, thus upsetting you.

Gee, thanks for the insult... I'm a lesser fan now, all because Soundwave isn't the greatest in my books.

I've never gone for the mainstream Transformers (except for Optimus), so don't think I'm singling out Soundwave, by the way.

I mispoke, my friend. By no means was I trying to alientate you by the lesser fan comment, I didn't emphasize ;) kidding enough and that was my fault. I'm not upset. I now see that I didn't read your post as hypothetical, only literal and that's why I was confused as to your statement about the cassettes. Hmmm...

I'm sure you'd be right.

Case in point, Blaster. before the movie (1986) he had no minions and was simply another affirmative action autobot with no real purpose except to provide music and communications, 2 things Jazz ALREADY had in the bag, dig? So when he got his own boys, he became SLIGHTLY more popular. But I've always felt he was an unwanted answer to soundwave, just an excuse to make the toy.

I mean no disrespect to Blaster fans, or Buster Jones... I just feel that the character was an afterthought and not fully developed as he should have been.

But with Soundwave, if he had gotten his cassettes later in time, as great as he normally is by himself, I can really see the build up and release of excitement if they had announced the cassettes later in the game... WOW! That would have been like a great way to do a suprise attack!!
