So, I was thinking the other day, there really isn't anything in the way of official canon backstory for Machine Wars. According to the TF Wiki, it is often regarded as following G2 in the timeline. I kinda like this theory, though I tend to think of it as following G2 at a much later date. Maybe the Machine Wars story would bridge the gap between G1/G2 and BW/BM. It's also fun to imagine them as Pre-G1 versions of the characters, though not sure how much that would hold up under fire.

What about ya'll? Thoughts and theories on what Machine Wars coulda/shoulda been?

I'm not fond of a post-G2 interpretation just because so many of the forms seem like downgrades from the G2 incarnations of characters. Well, really just Megatron and Optimus I guess...

A lot of the characters released in Machine Wars didn't receive a G2 incarnation. It's unfortunate then that they didn't just release the Machine Wars molds in G2 and, say, paint up the Thunderclash/Optimus mold as G2 Ultra Magnus.

i always took the machine wars characters and re-named them into g1 characters to represent there cybertronian alt.modes(soundwave's toy was megatron and megatron's toy was starscream)

Well, MW gave us an official name for any Megatron clone i.e. Megaplex. Plus Sandstorm was very cool.

Saw a cool fanpic of Starscream's ghost possessing the wounded body of MW Starscream.

The only thing I didn't like were the sizes of the Decepticon jets and the Hoist/Hubcap mold. Too small.

Have oversized versions of Robotmasters Wingstun and Wrecker Hook. They're about deluxe size. WH was a repaint of MW Hoist and Wingstun was repaint of Thundercracker. Would love to see the oversized KO's in the MW colours or better yet give us Classics updates.

Once saw oversized MW Thundercracker on Ebay. Wish I bought it.

I do see MW as an extension of G2 but I also see Robotmasters that way too. 2 great and under appreciated lines. There was a Machine Wars website years ago with the start of a Machine Wars comic that was interesting.

If it was a follow on to G2, would have preferred if they named Prowl as Double Clutch since G2 Mirage and Doubleclutch shared the same Spychanger mold. Mind you, I've long wanted to see Robotmasters Mirage (same as MW Mirage mold) given a new head and give us a Basic Energon Prowl.
