DOTM ROTF Voyager Megatron head comparison

Postby ZeldaTheSwordsman » Thu Aug 20, 2015 3:27 pm

Motto: "Earthrise restock or riot"
I have some ideas for customizing my DOTM Voyager Megatron (beyond just a paint job). One of those is replacing his head with one from an ROTF Voyager Megs, and I'd like to see a closeup comparison of the heads to know whether or not I can pop it on as-is, and to know ahead of time what work I'll have to do if that's not the case.
WANT:
* Cyb. Galvatron key, missiles
* Omega Lock
* Primus Cyber Key, coattail panel
* Powerlinx Comettor
* Leader Sentinel Prime sword, shield
* RiD Galvy dragon head, beast arms
* Leader Ironhide windshield, R hood assy.
* Cyb. Wing Saber left chestplate (argh)

Linking to the ROTF gallery index is not a side-by-side comparison of the heads. And while there is a shot of the Voyager Megatron figures in the DOTM Voyager Megs gallery, it doesn't quite show me what I need to see.

Having owned both, you most definitely cannot do that. The RoTF one is substantially larger (like 4x the DotM head)

Yeah, the DOTM is intentionally smaller by quite a bit for the effect with the head scarf to work.

4x bigger? Damn. That in particular was not discernable in the gallery photo. Would cutting away part of the light gray section DOTM Megatron's neck emerges from be enough to make room?
Not particularly fussed about interfering with the hood and cloak, since I don't even have the darn thing (my Megs was a thrift store find. Also sadly missing the oil tank cannon) and would have made a cloth replacement anyway.

Naw man, the rotf head is almost the size of the cab itself, he would definitely look striaght-up chibi or SD if you tried to put it on the dotm mold, sorry :(

Bugger. I guess I'll have to do something else to give his head an intact look.

Wouldn't really help, seeing as he has the partially-healed wound from the end of ROTF sculpted in. Paint would honestly bring out more of the details of the damage XD

I'm honestly not sure what to tell you then. Maybe get into 3d modeling, or something, sorry.

On the other hand, you could try affixing the rotf voyager head to the movie 1 leader, that would probably look f*&king awesome, food for thought 8-)

I already have a solution: I'm going to cover the damaged area with a targeting array.

I wouldn't want to put an ROTF Megatron head on a Movie 1 Megatron. Megatron's head got changed somewhat in shape when he was rebuilt, and gained armor plates on the cheeks.

That's cool, I just figured, since it was better sculpted (if not the best sculpt ever) than others, you wouldn't want it to go to waste >:oP

Well, since it's no good for what I was hoping to use it for I'm not going to seek out an ROTF Voyager Megs head the next time I have money. I have plenty of other parts and figures to buy intead. Such as, speaking of Movie 1 Leader Megs, his left arm pod (Downside to thrift store finds XD).

That sounds like a good idea. ROTF voyager Megatron was a solid figure
