According to the Salt Lake Tribune, Michael Bay & Crew did just that, filmed in the great state of Utah and no one knew until it was over and they were gone.

Here's what writer Vince Horiuchi had to say:

Now news has come out that a new blockbuster shot a week’s worth of footage here in Utah last May — Michael Bay’s "Transformers: Age of Extinction," the fourth in the series of rock-em, sock-em robot movies based on the line of toys.

Marshall Moore, executive director of the Utah Film Commission, said the film crew slipped in, shot the scenes, and were out before anyone noticed. The film company did not get any tax rebates for shooting here.

It's unknown at this time what purpose the desert landscape of Utah will provide for the film, but one can at least entertain the possibility of a fossil dig or something of that nature.

Transformers Age Of Extinction will release in US theaters on June 27, until then the news just keeps making it more and more difficult to wait for this film. Speaking of making it harder to wait, don't forget, the teaser trailer will debut during the Super Bowl on February 2nd.

Hmmmmm. I live in Utah, and distinctly remember knowing they were here. The first shots we got of Hound, Drift, and others were set against a desert backdrop which is totally familiar to me as southern Utah.

Given what we know about the film with the dinobots and whatnot, I'll bet dollars that they were filming in Utah to be near sites like Dinosaur National Monument and whatnot. Seems like it would be a perfect fit.
