A Question...

This topic will probably attract more negative comments than positive, but I will post it anyway.

I am currently on Issue #12 of the "All Hail Megatron" series and I am wondering: Why, at least from my perspective, does everyone hate this series? Yes, there is always room for improvement with characterization and plot development, but I have not seen one positive thing said/written in relation to AHM. What about AHM brings such negativity and, in some cases, a general lack of constructive criticism?

(I apologize ahead of time for stoking the fires of discontent, but I am just curious since I find really nothing wrong with AHM.)

Hi there, I think that most negative comments originate from the following:

1. The start of AHM completely ignored the prior events we saw in the "ion" series. Later issues suggested that it was indeed in the same continuity, this created many plotholes. Most fans disliked this disjointed storytelling.

2. The use of primarily season 1 characters, eventhough there's hundreds of characters to chose from. Some of them were already seen on Earth in prior story arcs (the arcs that were ignored).

3. Decompressed storytelling, this entire arc could have probably been executed with less issues than it actually took.

4. Characters acting counter to their established personalities. Starscream and Ironhide come to mind.

These reasons among others are ofcourse enough for people to get extremely negative about a story arc that could have been so much more.

I personally didn't care for it because of the continuity issues.

But luckily I got my fix reading Last Stand Of The Wreckers. Now that storyline also had great feeling of nostalgia for me since I had access to a number UK comics when I was younger (gotta love Wreckers' redshirts). We also got a good bodycount for once.

I hope that helps.

stormwolfs pretty much covered it.

its not so much the story itself. i personally like it, though i did find the decompression storytelly meant its better read in the trade than as an individual comic.

its just it came on the back of a massive slap in the face to longterm fans who were following the previous continuity.

there was a distinct feeling that we got jipped out of an amazing story.

it probably wouldve got a better reception if the -ation series hadve got the chance to finish naturally.

Thank you both for the detailed feedback. Like I said in my original post, I have read a lot denouncing AHM, but nothing that was constructive and concise enough to understand the origins underpinning such denouncements.

Stormwolf --

You mentioned the Wreckers in your reply and it made me remember a question that I have been meaning to ask:

Why were the Wreckers only part of the Marvel-UK continuity? I love reading about the Wreckers in the various Marvel-UK comic reprints and I find myself continually asking why they never made an appearance in the Marvel-US continuity?
