Studio Series 86 Discussion
Re: Studio Series 86 Discussion
I just received my SS86 Megatron from BBTS, and while I haven’t had a chance to fully open up the package and explore his transformation yet, I can say right off the bat that the lower leg color is nowhere near as blue as some of the initial photos have suggested. It is a much more muted, slightly blueish gray, which gave me a sigh of relief. I can’t wait to get him open later this evening and get him posed on the shelf.

I got a surprise email notice from Amazon today that Scavenger and Megatron are already out for delivery along with Alchemist Prime from AotP. Can't wait!

My Perceptor and cassettes should be here tomorrow. Still nothing about Megatron, although reading that some of you guys got the ready email from Pulse, gives me some hope. I didn't think Megs would be out for a couple more months so good news.

WTH, it feels like only last week I preordered Megs and people already getting it delivered! Maybe because I had to order through Pulse because Amazon sold out before I could get to him. Which means another month wait most likely. Meanwhile i did get a notice for Grimlock.

That's what happens when Hasbro drags so long revealing something that Takara Tomy shows it first. They really dropped the ball, but at least it seems like there'll be enough to go around. We should have seen him back at Toy Fair and pre-orders in April.

I missed out on both Scavenger and Mixmaster from both Hasbro and Amazon the 1st time, so I was happy to see Scavenger back in stock. Of course, the only one left missing had to be a leg.

In the future they should plan the limb releases better.

I think we say that with every combiner. Problem here is unlike the Age of the Primes line where all of the Aerialbot limbs are Deluxes paired in waves as a response to colossally screwing up the Stunticons, they appear to be doubling down on screwing it up with the Combaticons and Constructicons. Yeah, there's a necessity to mixing Deluxe and Voyager figures, but it sure doesn't make getting them easy for everybody.

For me, the biggest screw up with the constructions was making Scrapper in a split case with 2 other figures and Mixmaster 2 per case with 1 other figure. Assuming the same number of cases in a production run, that means there will be twice as many Mixmasters in existence than Scrappers without some type of repack.

OK, Amazon seems to be a little confused about if my Scavenger is coming today or not. In several places it says arriving today, others say it hasn't shipped, and the tracking itself is telling me both!

Got my 86 Studio Series Megatron and well.... I approve. That said, I do feel like my only issue is the transformation with the tabs and getting them lined up. It is a bit torturous and reminded me of trying to get ROTF Leader class Optimus Prime into truck mode somewhat.
Unlike that mold I am getting a hang of it myself and it is so much easier than that monster. I really do think Hasbro did a good job on capturing the animation model here perfectly, and I do like how the tank mode looks overall. It has a lot of the elements I love from the Combiner Wars mold and well, I love the fact he fits better in that command chair from the coronation Starscream set.
Going back to the whole, "tab this in" and "tab that in is" being really involved for me I always have trouble with the tabs because of how they always have to be lined up. An example sometimes I have a really hard time getting Studio Series 54 Megatron into his jet mode and it being "perfect" in terms of being secure. Anyone else generally have that issue too with the tabs? It does not help I find myself being a perfectionist with it.
Overall though I love it and it will replace my top spot choice for Megatron figures even though I will always, in some way, hold a candle for that Combiner Wars Megatron even though the Studio Series 86 version here is way superior to it in any and all ways.

Thank you. It's been so long since I used BBTS I actually forgot I had an account there. It still had my address from 10 years agoadamage1 wrote:Rodimus Prime wrote:I missed out on both Scavenger and Mixmaster from both Hasbro and Amazon the 1st time, so I was happy to see Scavenger back in stock. I got my Ramhorn the other day, cool figure replacing my Titans Return figure and standing by my TR Takara Perceptor which I so dig as my Neo G1 figure and paid $37....yeah a small fortune!
But now I'm faced with the fact that Bonecrusher and his design and engineering is hindering waist articulation and I'm clearly late walking in on this one.
So really
what the hell?? How many of you are looking to mod this damn flaw?

Well, imagine my surprise when I walked into Walmart yesterday
They put out solid cases of Excellion and Sideways, as well as... Constructicons! Seriously, Deluxe Bonecrusher, Voyager Scrapper and even the Commander Class Hook and Long Haul (priced at $90... yikes!) at a special lane setup. No photos, sorry.
I just completed SS RotF Devastator (pending Skipjack replacing Rampage), dunno if I should dive into the G1 one.

Is this a certain 3rd party version or the one that comes with Perseptor?
I've been contemplating on a 3rd party version because I don't like Hasbro's version.

Awww too bad, I think Ramhorn is pretty cool. And yes this is the Ramhorn that comes with Perceptor and Rambat which I'll pick up some where down the road. Good luck "Till all R1" on finding a 3rd Party version!

Saw the same thing in my Wal-mart TUES, minus the Commander. It was nice to see actual recent waves for a change there.
Also I got my Perceptor in and it's great. This is only the 2nd time I have done the buy a good figure, then buy a better version a year later, but it is worth it this time. The new chest/torso is miles better and no clear plastic. Paint is much better, the flat gray faces and cartoon style gets me every time. I just wish it had wrist swivels!! No good sniper/rifle 2 hand holding poses w/o it. He can kinda cheat and look up and down at least, if you un-tab the new back piece, so thats nice I guess. I just think wrist and good up/down looking head articulation is a must, up there with ankle tilts everyone loves and now demands. Other than that it looks amazing. I didn't know before but Percy's new torso is painted red cause it looks like it was on the Ramhorn mould.
Ratbat is pretty sweet too. I actually like it better than the MP one I had. Speaking of head articulation, Ratbat has it nicely done. I had no idea he would have the ability to look up, down, neck extend forward and a bit back, nice.
Ramhorn is the weakest, but still good. It does all I want in a Ramhorn. If its head was maybe a bit bigger it would fit much better. Also he really needed a small tiny bit of ear sticking up. Still awesome to have all the cassettes I wanted(pretty much) finally.
