I love Transformers as much as the next fan, but on this thread I have to ask... Why do we care??

This is right up there with Brody in Mallrats asking Stan Lee if The Things "dork is made of orange rock too?" and can "Mr. Fantastic stretch EVERY part of his body?"

As the esteemed Mr. Lee said, "Some things are super hero secrets." I think that we should take the same route here.

Instead of wasting time thinking about Transformers reproducing, use that energy to hook up with a fellow human.

I didnt say "why do we bother?" I said "why do we care?" And as far as fun and intellectually stimulating...

1) It's fiction, so anyone can say or write anything. Who is to say which is true and whats accurate?? You could debate till the the Energon Cows come home.

2) There will NEVER be a definitive answer to this question... Heck, I thought in the Transformers Ultimate Guide it says that the Cybertronians are manufactured and embued with a "Spark," which is a part of a greater whole (the Spark of Primus). It also says that there is truely NO GENDER on Cybertron, whether they are Fem or Male is a choice...and they even say "no one really knows why there are Fems in a society devoid of gender."

But obviously there are branches of fiction out there that take a different approach. From that I say this...a blaspheme to some I am sure; ALL are right... NONE are right. The possibilities are as vast as our imaginations, but at the end of the day we're not behind the helm of the industry and legend we know and love called Transformers. When Hasbro or Takara calls me up and tells me I am getting a small fortune to figure it out...I'll make sure to use all the time and energy I can to come up with something

On that note, I will bow out of any further additions to a debate concerning the reproduction of fictional beings....God, knows its hard enough getting a woman with a room full of Transformers without talking about how they reproduce

Why is this even a discussion again. We know how they're made. They're built and programmed as I just said, and we have a whole 400+ Post topic on the Cartoons/Comics forum about it. You know, where we proved beyond a shadow of a doubt (As if it weren't already bloody obvious) that Transformers can't have sex. Far out, what is with the number of morons on this board who think robots can engage in sexual intercourse? It's a pretty bloody obvious answer of hell no, they can't sexually reproduce, and as we've been shown an obscene number of times, they're built by other Transformers. WE've never had it stated explicitly that they get pregnant or whatever. As I said in the other thread, a bed ridden FEMALE WARRIOR is no use to anyone.

Whether you want to believe that TransFormers can't reproduce through any other means than being built from protoforms is your choice, The rest of us here in this discussion wish to discuss other possibilities. They probably don't try to reproduce during wartime. All the branches of the U.S Military have female soldiers in them, and they make sure they don't do anything that could make them get pregnant. If they get pregnant, they get discharged. Actually, female soldiers who get pregnant do not get discharged. They simply get desk duty until the baby is born and their maternity leave is over. Then they go right back to their normal duties. I knew quite a number of women in my units who had babies when I was in the Army. Not one was discharged for it. Back in the days of the Korean War, they would have been discarged, but not nowadays.

As to the issue about bed-ridden female warriors, most likely they would not be bedridden anyway. Look at most female mammals. They don't become bed-ridden. female predators like lionesses still go out hunting while pregnant. They don't get overly large to where it interferes either. Why would a pregnant Fembot be any different. If the offspring is small enough, pregnancy shouldn't impede the fem in the least.

A life form does not have to be organic to reproduce through sexual means. That is the biggest flaw in your argument. Being robotic and being capable of sexual reproduction are not mutually exclusive from one another. That is being extremely narrow minded. Therefore, no, it is not "obvious" that they can't have sexual reprductive capability. The very fact that they are living beings with genders, that engage in courtship, marriage and have families, is proof enough that they may indeed be capable of sexual reproduction.

Secondly, the whole point of this discussion is not to argue whether or not it is possible. The point of this discussion is based on the premise that it is possible, and to provide various theories on how it works.

No. It is being narrow-minded. Yes, water-based fluids or electrolitic fluids can cause damage to circuitry, but not certain other types, like silcon gels and certain oils. Theoretical self-replicating nanomachines will most likely be kept in a liquid or gel-like environment. Secondly, The use of factory-built protoforms imbued with a spark is not the only possible method this has specifically been stated in canon. There are other untapped methods of reproduction which do not require building a body from parts.

Also, just because we don't see something, or it isn't specifically stated, does not mean it is impossible. We haven't met extraterrestrial life yet. Does that mean they don't exist? No. It doesn't. People used to believe that the sound barrier could never be broken simply because it hadn't been. Chuck Jaeger (SP?) proved it could be broken. Enough canon evidence exists in the various canon sources to suggest it is possible. From the courtships of the various G1 couples, to the Lithonians, to Victory (manga), to Beast Wars to the DW G1 comics, particularly MtMtE #8, and the Ultimate Guide, They all provide evidence—little pieces of the puzzle—that when put together, do suggest that it is possible. There are other untapped methods for creating new life besides factory-built protoforms. That is just the most common method in G1. There is nothing in canon that says it is impossible for TransFormers to breed, to reproduce through sexual means. You, and you alone are the only one saying it is impossible and not letting the rest of us discuss a subject we choose to.
