How about as the next Walmart Exclusive line? A line dedicated with Marvel Comics in their G1 printed comic books appearance? With these printed dots texture shading and everything?
That would be cool.

It's too bad with all that reuse that they couldn't have simply tooled new Soundwave to include, that would have significantly swayed my considering the purchase of a 3-pk. As well as a brushed metal finish for megs. As is it really is just very passable.
I was wondering why the new Rumble turned out so light in color, most of the releases over the years as Frenzy have all been darker shade so that's what I had gotten used to seeing. lol
It's been so long since had seen the cartoon but I always though it was a tad darker, though it might have simply been my TV's settings.

Next after the next I mean. Or a Takara exclusive line. That would be hilariously ironic.

So I made my own Junkasaurus which is 90% what I've found from other fans online, and 10% my own. I prefer the fully bi-pedal version as opposed to the crouching, or quadrupedal more "beastly" version, but I get why fans like those, they have their own coolness.
A couple of conundrums though.... Obviously despite rumors, there has been no Crashbar repaint/retool listed for the 2024 main Legacy Universe line. We may still get one as a store exclusive or Selects, but I'm holding out hope until we know for sure, Id rather wait with a one armed combiner than buy 2 Crashbars.
Next, as soon as I saw how tiny Trashmaster was (I believe he may be the tiniest voyager to date, or close to it), I knew this combiner would not quite stack-up to CW/UW/PotP . But its not too terribly small. If they had just made the voyager closer to ER Optimus Prime size... Im still debating though.
In all my combiner collection, I'm still one heroic combiner short. I was hoping Trashmaster might be the one (The Fossilizer combiner was cool, but was still too small and too unstable). But this Junkasaurus is "closer" I guess...?
I know most fans appreciate the Junkions as individuals. The idea is innovative and fun. But... If you were to display Junkasuarus combined in your collection, would it go with past combiners, or just on its own?

I think R1 means he wanted a completely new Soundwave mold, and not just a re-use of the Netflix mold.
Which would have been an odd thing to do, when the other 2 figures are existing molds.
Also, there’s still that Legacy United Leader class Soundwave out there we know nothing about. It may still be a G1 version with packed in cassettes to bump him up to Leader Class.

Granted, animation limitations and all that, but I see what I see.

I was on the same page with you about this…
I’ll also say, my preferences have definitely changed since 2007-ish where I used to love chrome details/parts, as well as metallic paint.
But all of that is pretty mehhh for me now.
It’s probably partly due to the fact that chrome/metallic details and parts aren’t consistent throughout most figures. The RotB Prime figure is a good example.
I also feel that sometimes those details are attempts at compensating for other aspects that are lacking.
With that Soundwave mold, I’d give up all the chrome/metallic paints in a heartbeat for forearm covers and no landing gear kibble.
Another example are the matte gray faces of Prowl and Ironhide from the “dead” 2-pack.
It’s not that it’s animation accurate, it’s that imo it just flat-out looks better. In fact, when there aren’t any metallics seen anywhere else, why is the just the face metallic on some of these figures?
This maybe was from a different thread, but this is similar to clear windshields and windows…
If there’s nothing to see in the interior, then there’s no need for transparent parts.
Solid plastic and paint are very legit options. I know, and more expensive. But still.
Thanks for posting the amazonjp link.
Knowing I have some time to decide, I went ahead and preordered that 3-pack…
I’m not totally convinced yet, but we’ll see.
Pretty sure I’d keep Shockwave and Soundwave. The throne will be sold-off, and I’ll need to see that Megatron in-hand. But I really dislike that head/face sculpt.
That was a missed opportunity and missed the mark big time. It looks like a bad KO imo.

The best move would be to have Machine Wars Soundwave out of the Doubledealer mold. For originality and for the entertainment value.

I would expect a retooled Dreadwing / Skyquake into MW Starscream.

I'm expecting that as well. That's why I made my wallet BLEED by getting these two on impulse last Friday.

I know that getting a (possibly) Legacy MW Screamers from that mold would make me want to get Skyquake and Dreadwing. So, before I'm stuck paying scalper prices...

Not what I’d prefer, but would be understandable.
I think there’s still a chance it could be a G1 version for the simple fact that there is a low number of G1 characters in the mainline overall. What is it, 3-4 for the whole year?

From everything I've seen of SIEGE Shockwave (and I've seen him in person as well as in photos), his purple doesn't really seem lighter - just bluer. Both the cartoon and the OG toy have a more reddish purple. And again, see the barrel color. SIEGE Shockwave has a purple gun mode barrel, cartoon has gray.Emerje wrote:When I was talking about toy colors I wasn't looking at any one specific thing. I've always seen that as "the closest the cartoon could get". Where on this Soundwave is there any purple? Did you slip up and say the wrong color because you were distracted by Rumble in the screencap or something?
It's what I think of as additive cartoon accuracy, as opposed to reductive cartoon accuracy. It includes specific things the cartoon added (like head redesign, optics color, etc) and leans towards the cartoon's palette, but doesn't dumb down decals and metallic accents to match the cartoon's limits.Emerje wrote:but the use of metallic gold and silver instead yellow and gray like the cartoon feels specifically toy based.

It would have been odd, yeah, but I get why R1 wanted it - being a SIEGE retool with leftover transformation engineering therefrom inflicts some definite awkwardness on Netflix Soundwave, plus the tape door is barely big enough for purpose.Overcracker wrote:Sabrblade wrote:I think you might have left something out of the first half of this sentence. I'm happy enough with configuring SIEGE SW into an ersatz G1 tape deck mode via that one kit. Now, if they were to put out a new Soundblaster from the Netflix mold.. that would have my attention.

My gut is telling me this Soundwave won’t be a G1 version.
I think that next incarnation will be in SS86 to go along with these newer SS86 Cassetticons.
So if this L.U. figure isn’t G1, I don’t care what it is.

If not G1, that does limit the possibilities of what it could be, as not many non-G1 Soundwaves could really work as Leader class. Probably just Machine Wars, Cybertron, and Prime.Sowndwave76 wrote:My gut is telling me this Soundwave won’t be a G1 version.

Maybe EarthSpark too, but it's likely too soon for Hasbro to be considering Legacy toys of that series.

It's not light like the Masterpiece, just lighter than the Siege figure. It could just be that Takara is using some really dark photos, but the Siege figure isn't as dark as what's shown in these images. And when I'm talking about him being closer toy colors I'm referring to the G1 figure, that figure is also very dark in hand.

White probably would have been a better choice for a chrome effect than gray, but maybe they thought darker would make him look more evil?

But is being additive appropriate for a toy that's supposed to be "reenacting" a (non-existent) bit from the cartoon? I don't think it is, but maybe I'm in the minority. I'm buying the set because I think they look good, I don't really have a strong opinion either way.
Well, did you see that Soundwave has red eyes? That certainly isn't toy-based.Emerje wrote:Granted, animation limitations and all that, but I see what I see.
Emerje
Did you notice the red on his shoulder canon that comes directly from the G1 box art and not the cartoon? Or the red band around the wrists and shoulder details?

Maybe it's more appropriate to call these figures a sort of amalgamation of various details from multiple sources to create ideal versions of these three rather than something specific.

Prime? The tiny Drone Soundwave warrants a Leader Class figure?

I think outside of G1, only Machine Wars and Cybertron could warrant Leader Class pricing.
Prime, Animated and Cyberverse could maybe be pushed to Voyager.
And WFC would just show up in SS Gamer Edition at some point.
No other Soundwave designs out there exist sooo...
I think the likely hood that this is anything other than G1 with some more tapes, is low at best.

Yes. He was one of the larger Decepticons in the Prime cartoon. It's not the cartoon's fault that Hasbro decided to instead give him such a dinky Deluxe toy. It should have been at least a Voyager back then.Overcracker wrote:Sabrblade wrote:If not G1, that does limit the possibilities of what it could be, as not many non-G1 Soundwaves could really work as Leader class. I think that next incarnation will be in SS86 to go along with these newer SS86 Cassetticons.
So if this L.U. figure isn’t G1, I don’t care what it is.
Maybe EarthSpark too, but it's likely too soon for Hasbro to be considering Legacy toys of that series.
Prime? The tiny Drone Soundwave warrants a Leader Class figure?

I've always liked this non-G1 version of Soundwave. It was unfortunate it dramatically limited what they could do with the cassettes.

I'd have to respectfully disagree with that assessment.

I can only hope! While I don't feel Soundwave needs to be Leader Class to get it right in terms of size or engineering, I can see an instance where it would appeal to me if they did go that route. And in that case they would have to Include a couple Cassettes or three as some kind of ultimate pack. And perhaps they could utilize the Masterpiece Cassettes instead of tooling all new Legacy Buzzsaw and Lazerbeak? Or even Ravage as that would keep costs down on the set.
I'm not well versed on the Comics so I don't know if they could utilize the tooling for a new Laserbeak or Ravage beyond those characters. So if they did make all new versions I suspect we'd only see Buzzsaw as a pack in so they could sell Laserbeak and Ravage as core singles.
Steeljaw and Ramhorm are also unique while Eject and Rewind can just be repaints of Rumble. Thus I'm guessing it will be a while before we see some of them.

His robot mode is the rightmost one of that fanmade chart.-Kanrabat- wrote:Overcracker wrote:TFPrimeSizeComparison.jpg

I mean for his dragon form, obviously. Because no way will the bot mode be in scale.
Gotta love those Transformers mass-shifting.

Man after picking up Trashmaster on impulse I chose to see a couple more video reviews and I'm sad to say I will be returning him. First off I think the name is pretty lame, way to go HasTak. Had he been a keeper I was considering calling him Scrapoid or Dispositron. And the flaws involved were enough to send Trashmaster back to the shelf where someone else will enjoy him...'nuff said.
