well duh, of course not. Headstrong was one of Predaking's legs! :P Can you imagine a 1-legged Predaking trying to fight?

On the Japaneese side of G1 cartoon, the simular combiner groups can switch like that (SC combiners (most G1 combiners minus Cunsticons (Devistator) and Predacons (Predaking) and the Headmasters from "Headmasters") and get a powerup in the process..

The Headmasters could swap heads and gain powerups in the Japanese series. For example, Chromedome is gonna move some bombs, but he lacks the strength to do so. Hardhead has the strength, but he's too chicken, so they swap heads and voila.

except the heads ARE the characters in Headmaster, and the bodies are just big power suits.

The best one was the Head Formation of Friendship. Touching.

Ok, I'll bite. What's the Head Formation of Friendship?

I really need a GIF or video to show you. It involved the Headmasters holding hands and floating into the sky, and some pink...energy waves or something radiating from the nucleus of their bonding.

This isn't really connected to everything, but Hook once seperated from Devastator to operate on one of the Autobots. (I don't have the episodes available right now, so I can't look up the ep name...but it's the season 2 episode where the Autobots took control of the Constructicons).

 Your right! I forgot completely about that! Although the ep was The Core, and it was animated by Akom, so it isn't reliable, but still.

I guess Predaking had a reason to need Headstrong, considering he couldn't exactly hop his way across the battlefield. Perhaps Superion is just a coward who needs his arm to feel secure, despite being able to function without it.

i can accept that, even though he's supposed to be the more successful of the gestalts.

What, Predaking or Superion? Predaking's definitely one of the better ones, Superion's quite iffy. Actually, maybe Defensor was able to function without First Aid because he's one of the better adjusted combiners.

Anyway, finding flaws in the 'toon is like finding a needle in a needlestack.

hey, i'm not debating predakind power, but (if you read the ultimate guide) Superion is suposed to be the perfect mesh of of mass interlect

It doesn't say that all; it mentions his 'clarity of thought and single-minded intent'. He's not actually that much more compatible than Devastator; the Aerialbots still produce a big jumble of conflicting thoughts and ideas. But while Devastator just goes all 'Hulk smash' in a fit of rage and confusion, Superion deals with it by basically filtering out all the extraneous thoughts from his component parts and just dealing with the important stuff, like fighting.

He may not be a raging Frankenstein's monster, but 'perfect mesh' he ain't.
From the early teams, Defensor deserves the title much more. But I think it's the likes of Computron, Predaking, and possibly Monstructor that were the real successes.
