Ok, I figure I would post a review of the parts I received from Shapeways for CW Legends Rodimus.

Now, let me start this review in saying that I am not affiliated with fakebusker83. I also have ordered many shapeways parts before and know the limits of the process, so I will make references to that, but it does not play into the review much.


So you want to upgrade Rodimus to look more like Rodimus without drilling holes, putty, or cutting into the spoiler? Then fakebusker83 has a solution for you.

I ordered 2 sets of the parts, 1 in black for my custom Rodimus where I drilled holes in the back of him, and one in yellow for a second one for this review.

Let's get the whole 3D printing issue out of the way, if you have never ordered parts from Shapeways before, the plastic printing is "grainy". This is not the fault of the part, it is a fact of the process. If you are looking for something that looks factory then this is probably not for you and you should try one of the other customizing tips that are around. I knew the limits of the material beforehand, and I have no issues with it. It is not flimsy in my opinion, but it is not like a factory made part.

The design is solid, however my wing would not sit tight in the robot mode, so I had to "paint" the tab with some clear nail polish to fix it. Here are a couple pics with my custom to show the differences.





I really like the design in robot mode. It sits well and looks good. The gun fits well in the Rodimus' hand and really completes the look. Yes, the yellow color does not match, but as was mentioned in a video review, Masterpiece Rodimus Prime didn't either.

Now he did make it that you could combine the wing and gun to make an axe like the original, but that was not what my intentions for the parts were for, so I didn't photograph that. I will say my two sets would not stay in axe form without falling apart. No biggie for me.

Now the wing in alt mode. Personally as much as I like the wing in robot mode, I dislike it in the alt mode. I think the original without the barrel on it sits better than the Shapeways part. The Shapeways part sits too high or at too steep of an angle for my tastes, but it is acceptable. The part fits snug and again fits the bill for Rodimus.





So for me personally I give it an 8.75 out of 10. The only thing I would like to have seen different would be the angle of the wing in alt mode.
