For such a big MP, and such a big character, it has absolutely nothing going on! No heavy joints, no good detail...just flimsy, barely posable arm joints, stupid ass legs with weak ratchets...butt flap...stupid proportions that make him look like a cosplayer in cardboard boxes...just so damn boring!
But because the cab does a bit of origami everybody treated it like the second coming of Jesus in plastic form!

I was bored with him right outta the box. He only stands in good stead with me now because I've customised the shnits out of him. And I'm still working!

Just a question on UM as I feel the pain you are going through but you of course know the backgrounder behind his creation right?

If Takara went for the powered armor route it would have been the UniMetal type figure compounded. And that monster costs like US$ 800 + (the core bot not even transformable) so it is a fair compromise.

As for the flatness, I do miss the lack of extra details like the one found in the GF/Cb Convoy. Now it's all G1 Floro Dery flat.

Again, a compromise we could live with compared to an US$ 800+ price range. Only the hard core collector market will go for that ...in Japan.
