Transformers Masterpiece: General Discussion
Re: Transformers Masterpiece: General Discussion

I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but do you guys think there's a decent chance of the other Dinobots getting the MP treatment any time soon? And if so, would you like to see them released individually (preferably one right after the other), or as a set? Same question goes for the special teams, if they ever see the light of day.

It actually gets discussed frequently and there are few that wouldn't want to see them done. First step is making a new Grimlock that scales with everything else in MP.
This isn't cutting it.
So I wonder whatever happened to that rumored Rodimus Prime reissue?

Not a rumour, Hasbro Asia is releasing another run of Rodinus Prime and you can still preorder them from Chinese sellers on Taobao.
Also, Rodimus. special teams like combiners will not get the MP treatment. Any plans were aborted and those designs were instead used to make Generations figures (hasui confirmed that for Devastator)
With the current parts count and rising prices, the MP dinobots would be 300$ and up, so they could only be sold individually. There are currently 0 rumours as to them being on Takara's roadmap.

Your best bet is to check out the 3rd party sellers. With Takaras ludicrous price increases, they are actually looking to be reasonable cost now.

I can't imagine any of the Dinobots going for $300, they'd be $175-$200 tops. Unlike a lot of G1 characters their cartoon models were almost spot on toy accurate. That means no need for hiding kibble (though for true cartoon accuracy it can be done the way it is in PotP), no excessive panel folding, and no fake parts for cartoon accuracy, and an overall smaller parts count. Grimlock could feature some electronics that might boost the price, but not the others.
It would still be a terrible idea to release them as a set, but over the course of three years would be affordable.

After the recent prices revealed, there is no way in hell I am ever underestimating prices again.
$175-$200 SRP for a new MP Grimlock aint gonna happen.

Takara Masterpiece Display at ACG Hong Kong 2018 with Prowl, Shockwave, Shadow Panther, Cordon
- Motto: "'till All Are One"
The ACG Hong Kong 2018 show is underway and while it is outside of Japan, Takara is there in full form (since many Takara products are sold in Hong Kong through Hasbro Asia). The upcoming Masterpiece figures MP 17+ Anime Prowl, MP 29+ Anime Shockwave, MP 34S Shadow Panther and MP 42 Cordon were on display and we got photos of them from the Transformers Never Die Facebook group.
Prowl an Shockwave are redecos, Shadow Panther comes with different accessories from Cheetor (including a mutant mask) and Cordon is a slight retool of Sunstreaker.
As we know already, this Prowl figure will also be released simultaneously in the US and an interview between Seibertron and Hasbro confirmed that this will happen more frequently from here on out. Due to the brand unification going both ways, Hasbro will now be importing Takara Masterpiece figures themselves and selling them through specialty retailers (like Entertainment Earth, BBTS, ect) with a wraparound cover for English words. We have transcribed the interview for you below, you will find it after the images of the Masterpiece figure display.

Ryan (interviewer) – Speaking of Masterpiece, Takara Tomy is releasing Beast Wars Megatron – is that coming from you guys or not?
Ben (Transformers Brand Manager) – It’s a partnership we have with Takara now, so Hasbro are now importing the Takara Masterpiece items stateside. You will see a box that will go around the Takara Tomy original packaging, like a slip sleeve sort of thing, that will bring our brands together. It will be the exact release you would’ve expected in Japan, at the same time you would’ve gotten it in Japan.
Ryan – Is it a product you worked on together?
Ben – There’s definitely more collaboration going on, not to the level of Movie Masterpiece, but in general you see the unification of our brands, product lines, the Masterpiece line that Takara is creating is our next step in working together.

Small error in the transcript that should look like this:
Pretty sure we all know it's coming from Takara Tomy, that wasn't the question.

MP-10A pricing, can anyone give me an idea what these are actually worth? The prices online are a bit nuts.

The lowest they ever went on the secondary market (which was the main way to get it outside the initial market) was around the 500$ mark. Its only gone up since

Mandarake sells opened ones with slight box damage like yours occasionally for 80,000 JPY, about $721, but for a seller outside of Japan you might be able to ask $800. Definitely wont sell one for $4,000+ like people are asking on eBay.

As an aside, I received an invoice today. Due for release August 24th, MP 34S Shadow Panther came in at a very reasonable £68. At less than half the price of Dinobot and a fraction of the cost of Megatron, it was quite refreshing

By "line" do you mean MP BW? Cause 44 is already the new reigning champ of costly (non-exclusive) MP's.

I'm out. I cancelled my BW Megs pre order, and I've passed on the new Prime pre orders. Putting Dinobot on eBay this weekend.
I'm not happy about it, but Takara is just being greedy. That's their right, of course, but it's lost them a customer, and probably gained the KO market a new one.
I'm waiting to see the price on Hound. If it's the same as Sunstreaker, I'll pay it, but if it's more, than he is a pass as well.

I am out for G1 molds (already was) but will keep supporting BW MPs. And Ironhidensh, if the KO sunstreaker is anything to go by, the KO altrernative might be very poor. So it would be an all or nothing (as in we experience the real thing or we dont experience the mold at all).

Yeah, KO's can be hit or miss. The MPM Prime KO was vastly superiour to the official, but the MPM Barricade (which I bought by accident) was good, but not as good. I've heard nothing but praise for the Megatron 36 KO's, but I honestly never paid any attention to the Sunstreaker one. I know the Datsun KO is of equal quality, but the Sideswipe/redalert was lacking.
All I know is that anything over 250, really 230 bucks is simply a ripoff, no matter how good looking or desired, or official a mold is. The pricing for BW Megtatron and Prime 44 makes me want to never buy a Takara product again. If it wasn't for my kids liking Transformers, Hasbro would have priced me out of the main line purchases a couple of years ago. As it is, I try and wait for sales and discounts.

Unless they finally do Trailbreaker or Brainstorm or another Targetmaster repaint (hopefully Stepper soon) I am out minus the MPMs. MP BW Megatron will be the last of the Beast MPs for me, and I have my Sideswipe, Shattered Prime, Targetmaster Hot Rodimus (still sad about that one), and Sideswipe. So I have most of the guys I care for.
I'm looking for parts, Help Me Out Please!
