lol i noe his a commander but there is something im not so sure of. in the 1986 movie, ultra magnus is under optimus but in tfa, ultra magnus is higher than optimus so im jus curious what is he in general?

There really is no "in general"...He has different roles in different continuities...TFA has really nothing to do with G1 (despite some missleading insinuations)...

In TFA, Ultra Magnus is a High Commander of the Autobot army and Optimus Prime is simply the leader of a small maintenance team...

In G1, Optimus Prime was the overall leader of the Autobots and Ultra Magnus was the Commander of Autobot City...

Don't be confused...They are just two different versions of a character with the same name...

Don't forget RiD Ultra Magnus, who was a lot of things: Optimus' brother, a rogue Autobot (at first), a jerk, a deux ex machina, and a magic mushroom for Prime.

Armada Ultra Magnus was really Overload, who had no personality whatsoever.

Energon Ultra Magnus was just added to help flesh out the toyline and made zero fictional appearances, nor did he have a bio either.
