I didnt see it before, but I guess it's true. Is this even accurate?

They have very notable differences, but are clearly the same mold, just heavely re-tooled.
Anyone else notice this? Or was it common knowledge by now and I was just out of the loop...

Yep, it's an extensive retool. I mentioned it back in BotCon reveal topic. This is how to reuse a mold!

Jazz and Sideswipe are different in respect to their car shells and heads. All the other parts like the bottom of the chassis are the same.
It's not a case of G1 Bumblebee vs. G1 Cliffjumper sharing engineering despite being separate molds, or even G2 Smokescreen vs. Energon Starscream sharing the same rough transformation scheme.

Jazz is a total pass, but I REALLY want to like Sideswipe. I do likes me some Sideswipes. I'm still not sure though, I'll need to see a review and some good images before I make a decision on Sideswipe there. That gun is badass as hell though. xD

If they started with an existing mold and retooled it, it's a retool. If not, it's a new mold. I don't think it a continuu; I think it's an either/or. Either they retooled an existing mold to create a new one, or they designed a new mold from scratch.

My take on it is that this is a new mold for the most part and some Jazz mold reuse, so they could offer a new figure, (not just a repaint and new head), without having to engineer a whole new transformation. That's really the part that takes the most time and cost.

Either way though, I like it, and it will be added to my FOC line as soon as its up for order.

Yeah, this is a case where it's still a retool - the detailing of everything but the car parts (in the actual plastic, not the paint job) is identical.

However, the car parts and heads are different enough that it's a lot more than the usual retool. In fact, I refused to believe it was a retool until I saw them side by side in the beginning of this thread. So I agree with, erm, whoever it was on page 1 that decided this is a reshell.

it’s different enough to where i don’t mind it and it seems like two different figures. at least more effort was put into them than Prime RID Hotshot and Bumblebee

Of course, that said, Hot Shot wears the mold INFINITELY better than Bee ever did.
