For those who enjoyed New Avengers/Transformers...

Postby seibertronben » Tue Nov 06, 2007 5:32 pm

In the 1970s, Marvel Comics published five Giant Size-Avengers issues on a quarterly basis, with the fifth issue being a reprint of Avengers Annual #1. Those extra-large Avengers comics featured memorable and pivotal Avengers stories by fan favorite and comic book industry legends such as “Nuklo—The Invader That Time Forgot!” by Roy Thomas, Rich Buckler and Dan Adkins, “A Blast from the Past!” by Steve Englehart and Dave Cockrum, “…What Time Hath Put Assunder!” by Englehart, Thomas, Cockrum and Joe Giella, and “…Let All Men Bring Together!” by Englehart, Don Heck and John Tartag.

This December, the publisher will be presenting brand new Avengers tales by the likes of familiar creators as well as new-to-Marvel talent from the indie and webcomics scenes with the publication of Giant-Size Avengers Special #1.

In part one of a series of features on all things Giant-Size Avengers Special, Newsarama.com sat down with editor John Barber to discuss about the idea behind the extra-length special one-shot and take a peek at the talent involved.

But first, the solicitation for the issue:

GIANT-SIZE AVENGERS SPECIAL #1
Written by C.B. CEBULSKI, MATT YOCUM, DANIEL MERLIN GOODBREY, DOUGLAS NOBLE, T. CAMPBELL & SCOTT GRAY
Penciled by PAUL NEARY, BRIAN DENHAM, NELSON, DENIS MEDRI & ROGER LANGRIDGE
Cover by BRYAN HITCH
As the Avengers battle to take down the Serpent Society, the team recalls never-before-told tales of their past! Watch as:
Spider-Man tries to integrate into a team and learns a thing or two about history, Luke Cage and Wolverine go toe-to-toe against a terrifying cosmic foe, Henry Peter Gyrich becomes an unlikely hero on an unlikely world, and Jarvis the butler cleans house…after some robot Vikings drop by unexpectedly. On top of all that—it’s the return of the critically-acclaimed Fin Fang Four by Scott Grey and Roger Langridge! That’s 55 pages of all-new comics, PLUS classic reprints from Avengers history!
96 PGS./Rated A …$4.99
