G1 Season 1/2 Transformers vs Season 3/4 Transformers

Why did Hasbro seem to favor the G1 season 3 and 4 Transformers over the season 1 and 2 Transformers? Weren't seasons 1 and 2 the heyday, making possible the animated movie?

They killed off so many of the 84 and 85 characters, or reformatted them, like they were nothing. They devoted the movie to Hot Rod, Springer, RC, and Wreckar like they thought they were hipper. Bumblebee, Jazz and Cloffjumper were pushed to the background.

I think it was a mistake to kill off Starscream because he was such a core character. The power struggle between Galvatron and Starscream would have been interesting to watch.

The Return of Optimus Prime looked like it could have been made to be the series finale. Galvatron actually fit into the last scene standing with the heroes and humans, and shaking Primes hand. I really could really see Megatron doing that.

I think Megatron being in seasons 1 and 2 make those seasons better than seasons 3 and 4.
