Well thats the beauty of it. It wouldn't be hard for Dan, Harlod, Bill and Ernie to slap on some mokap gear to get their mannerisms perfectly. So the physical comedy would still be there, their mannerisms will be there, their voices will be there. It's perfect.

Sounds okay in theory, but think of Murray in the library, as he tries to get the slime off his hand and shoe. That's a great bit of physical comedy which made a mundane scene funny, and believably funny, at that.

I just can't see something that good coming out of CGI. Even if CGI got the movement spot on, it would just lack the presence that a real person brings to it.

I guess I also don't want to imagine them in crappy Polar Express type animation.

This is exactly what I mean. I don't know if CGI will work. I'm not fond of too many CGI movies, to be truthful, and I'm not particularly knowledgeable about the art of it all.

The script and the chemistry is still the crux of Ghostbusters' success. If CGI can't pull that off - if it lacks those little touches - then it will be bad.

I personally think the original cast is just too old for another movie. And that makes finding a similar set of great ad-libbing, physical comedians with a tight bond amongst each other, very challenging. The originals had SNL experience on their side, and that was a huge plus.

This is true. I think they could still pull off the comedic exchanges and 'in the Firehouse discussing Tobin's Spirit Guide' scenes, but I can't imagine them running around with those Proton Packs.

I'm not sure how I feel about a new cast.

Jason Bateman (the lead on AD) is a good, but I don't know.

I think you need some combination of a brain (Egon), hands (Ray), and mouth (Venky) to make the GB concept work well. I think I'll need to sleep on this one, but that's what I'll be basing my thoughts on.

See, that's why I say it would be ok if they make a CGI movie that is like the cartoon because I loved the cartoon Slimer and hated the movie Slimer.

Interestingly enough, Harold Ramis directed last night's episode of (now superior to the original) The Office. It would be awesome to have a new GB with some of the cast, as mentioned earlier, because the Office's "comedy in a mudane enviroment" is a good match to GB1.

I'm going to shuffle:

Toby as an Egon
Dwight as a Ray
Jim as a Venkmen
Pam as Janine

Awesome! That's make a great Halloween episode anyway.

Slimer and Elmo aren't as annoying as Jar-Jar, T-Bob and Daniel!

I'm still yet to see this remake of The Office. I can only hope it's better than the original, to be frank.

Slimer is great as a mean little spirit in GB1, but lame as a kiddie character elsewhere.

(The first few episodes of Office US are a bit iffy because Gervais had a big hand in them, and they were trying too hard to be the UK show. But come the end of Season 1, it started to come into it's own, and I believe it can more than hold it's own against the original. Gervais is still the best Boss From Hell, but the rest of the US characters are better than their counterparts.)

Gervais' character is the typical white-collar Englishman, in my experience. ;)

But back to GB...

Who has a GB outfit? I went to a comic convention awhile ago, 2005 actually, and was surprised their were a few GBs there.

I don't have one, but I wish I did.

I really think Slimer could work if he was kept to just one or two scenes as a test subject for Egon and Ray. I wouldn't want to see him as a sidekick on jobs, maybe not even as a comedy element, but just as an ectoplasmic guinea pig.
