how old can TF fans be??

There is more to Transformers than movies, cartoons, comics and toys. Discuss anything else Transformers here.

Really? I just know the storyline is significantly different, and I'm curious. My local library has a couple issues that I've taken a peek at, but I really like starting at the beginning of a story if at all possible.

lol I dunno, I've been enjoying most of the various incarnations of the TFs that I've investigated so far. Well, 'cept for the Cybertron episode I caught, but still. [/quote]

Don't get me too wrong.. I love the storyline, especially early on, but after the movie.. everything went "apes**t" Marvel tie ins (4 mutants able to beat any transformer out there) the comic style became too human .. that wasn't a problem for me with "Hook, Line and Sinker" but seeing Scorponok as Johnny Depp with sunglasses on is a bit too ridiculous.

anyway.. go for IDW's G1 their artwork is excellent and do G1 Transformers more justice than everything that was released in the 80's.

I'm lucky I'm dutch and only had to collect a couple of years of the comics but as a kid, I seem to have been way more accepting of that stuff than I am now.

Well, mostly 'cos I didn't know there were reissues. I'll have to check that out. :D

The only thing is..... you get addicted. I remember saying.... "OH CRAP.. I just need Devastator" and then it turned into an obsession but i'm good now. I only buy maybe 2 old Transformers a year now a days. So don't say you weren't warned.

heehee Thanks for the warning. I don't see me becoming a big collector, but then I guess you never know...

Welcome to the forums and the Transformer universe in general.

Keep in mind that the 2007 movie was a retelling for the most part and anything in the past G1 or otherwise was not meant to be held to it as a holy bible or a template written in stone.
I've been collecting for a little over four years now, I only had a handful at best when the show first came out but yes it is a very addicting and expensive habit but at least it's a healthier habit for the most part.
Welcome again to the forums.

Congrats on your first post and.. the reason why most collect G1 is nostalgia.. don't spend your money on a MOSC Huffer when you can get a decent movie toy for it.

Unless you want a MOSC Huffer.....
Or you prefer G1 toys to the movie toys.....
Or you just plain old wanted a MOSC Huffer......

I'm 29 and I collect mainly G1 figures because they are my favorite line of TF toys. MAybe it's nostalgia, maybe it's just because I like the G1 toys better than other series. Or I could be a Communist. But I'm not.

Going to be 31 in March. My wife would kick my butt if I just dropped Transformers. It's one of my hobbies and it's fun. I'll never give up this hobby.

I strayed a bit back when gen 2 was out but there was this whole lack of money and being stuck out in the midle of nowhere and no internet, so I didn't even know there was a Gen2 for the longest time. Beast Wars got me back into it and I haven't thought aobut giving it up since.

I'm 29 and was into G1 as a kid, got away from TFs for a long time, and then got hooked again when I picked up the first wave of Classics figures.

I enjoy all of the lines of toys for different reasons, although I'm much more partial to the robot -> vehicle transformers than the beasties. I'd still like to see the Beast Wars cartoons b/c they are so highly regarded.

I love the 2007 movie and am hoping that the sequels kick ass much @$$. I also really like Animated and am debating about whether or not to collect that line of figures (my wife and I are moving to a new house soon and need as much cash as possible). I've got an OCD streak a mile-wide, so if I buy one figure, I feel compelled to own them all. It's not pretty, so it's a good thing that the classics stuff took a break (although, I'm fighting off the urge to buy all the Movie Premium figures).

Anyway, I love TFs b/c they give me a "safe" distraction from my real world responsibilities as a IT Project Manager and a fairly new father (my son is almost 2). My wife humors me but wouldn't shed any tears if I sold off my collection. Not likely. :D

lol Yeah, I didn't expect too much continuity between G1 and the 2007 movie, and its easier just to keep 'em separate in my head anyway. But the movie made me and my friends curious about the cartoon that it was based on, and so we found the first few episodes on youtube... we're nearly to the end of season 2 now, just met the Aerialbots and the Stunticons, and sorta met the Combaticons...

The series is available on dvd to of course and well worth picking all the seasons up if you like them that much, enjoy!
