IDW Publishing has issued a press release regarding the recently revealed new mini series that will be produced by the Transformers Comic creators, Transformers: Ironhide. Here's what they had to share:

San Diego, CA (February 19, 2010) - This May, fan-favorite IRONHIDE is back from the dead for his own four-issue series - or is he? Under license from Hasbro, TRANSFORMERS: IRONHIDE explores the history of OPTIMUS PRIME's best friend and the aftermath of his shocking death in TRANSFORMERS #1.

"Just because he's dead, doesn't mean he's not important! This is comics, folks!" said IDW TRANSFORMERS editor Andy Schmidt. "While IRONHIDE's death is extremely important to what's happening in the ongoing TRANSFORMERS series, it turns out it's even more important to the TRANSFORMERS home world of CYBERTRON."

Located on CYBERTRON, TRANSFORMERS: IRONHIDE weaves a rich tale of consequences past and present. Comics mainstay Mike Costa pens this exciting story, with art by the talented Casey Coller. Coller and Marcelo Matere will provide eye-catching covers.

"If you're a TRANSFORMERS comic fan, this is a must-have. The story has huge ramifications for the ongoing TRANSFORMERS comic saga," adds Schmidt.

This will be interesting, although I'm a bit in dismay for the actual motivation for the comic - "Yeah he died and because of that event he gets a 4-part mini-series!".

Oh well.. I'm a sucker for TF comics anyways.

I have to say, Ironhide has never been one of my favorite characters. I never disliked him, just don't feel strongly that I do like him.

Unless I hear great things about this, it's a pass for me. So far Costa has done nothing to earn my confidence in him as a writer.

If you haven't, you should read GI JOE: CObra. It's a good mini that he write that really got him his name in comics, but it is good. :COBRA:

Seems the motivation for a TF series these days at IDW is "Hey, let's create some kind of controversial situation or character change, then do a issue or series later on to justify it."

Guess character development or a chance to tell a good story is a lost art.

Neh, not a Joe fan. Tried to like them, never could get into them.
