Krunk ... what the hell did his name used to mean?

There is more to Transformers than movies, cartoons, comics and toys. Discuss anything else Transformers here.

Is that true?

And it wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that Ratchet is a mechanic and a ratchet is a tool?

I doubt the Nurse Ratched thing.

Bob Budiansky is displeased by your doubting.

Megatron, whichever the first couple dozen were. Ravage. I think Bumblebee was mine. Ironhide, um who was the ambulence? Ratchet, which I got from "One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest", Nurse Ratchet you know that story. Ironhide I got from the old TV series Ironside. I pulled all these names from different things.

Megatron was "Mega" from "Megaton", you know. "Tron" was from "electronics". I can't say for sure, but my belief is that that name became one of the best known. I remember it was in Doonesbury where the son of Doonsbury is saying that the President is Megatron or something like that. I think it's the best known and regarded among a lot of the names I came up with. At the time, Hasbro actually initially rejected it, and the reasoning was "Well, it sounds too scary because Megatron makes you think of nuclear bombs." and I said "Well, he's the head of the bad guys, the whole idea is for him to be scary." They dropped their protest after that. They would reject names every so often for all sorts of reasons. Although they were really happy, I mean they were just ecstatic generally when I came up with a batch of names for them to look at.

I know sometimes in other years they actually used companies to come up with names. At that time I think there was some really nascent computer software to generate names, and they would do that. And they would always come back to me. For like, five years they did that.

So ner. I wasn't talking out of my arse, thankyouverymuchplease.

Okay, I can admit when I'm wrong.

Perhaps this "nascent computer software" was the source of "Krunk"?

Too Cool! I never would have guessed the Ironhide/Ironside reference! I wonder how many other little references there are in TF names that we may never know about...

OK, OK, real question. Who came up with the designs? My first exposure to the Headmasters were through the Marvel Comics miniseries of that name. However, I believe that this was based upon the toys designed by Takara in Japan. So, the real question is, if the toy designs were by Takara, were the names also by Takara?

We know that Scorponok in America was Lord Zarak in Japan. Did we change all of the names to run in the US story line or did we keep some of the names and change the rest? If that is the case, we need to ask someone who speeks Japanese what "Krunk" means?

However, I still stand by me first explanation eartlier.

There's also a Marvel character called Drax, The Destroyer.
Maybe Bob Budinsky was giving a nod to to the character and to Jim Starlin the character's creator.

The problem there is that in Japan the Headmasters were smaller robots (what we know as the Nebulans, such as Gort) with larger transtectors (what we know as the Cybertronian robots, such as Mindwipe).

So, for example, in the US and the West there was Stylor and Chromedome. But in Japan Stylor was Chromedome and what the US called Chromedome was just a mindless robot/mobile suit controlled by Chromedome (a transtector).

My point is, Krunk would not have existed in Japan, anyway.

krunk

Postby Jestermon » Wed Mar 14, 2007 9:37 am

That google definition is useless, I live in Atlanta and am from Georgia, "Urban" people here say it for cool or popular, it never refers to people being Krazy drunk at least in its colloqual usage here.

I have seen it spelled Krunk far more times then the alternative, I showed my Gf this a while back and thought it was also humerous, also in the justice friends the purple hulk guy was called Krunk.
