neither Soundwave nor ANY of us fans DESERVED JACK SQUAT!
That is the single most arrogant, self serving load of crap yet. This movie, this franchise, none of this BELONGS to any of us.
This was Bay's Movie from the start and we all knew that. Getting Cullen wasn't something he HAD to do for us. Just because there was a lot of us making noise doesn't mean he HAD to cave and to be honest, I'm surprised he did. Would I have boycotted the movie if he hadn't? NO! I understood from the beginning that this was not a 25 year old animated show.
Getting Welker this time around was not something he had to do either. He didn't owe Welker, he damn sure didn't owe us and he didn't owe it to Hasbro. In fact, I wish he hadn't done it because all it's done is bring out the absolute WORST in the whole damn fandom! Who do you folks think you are thinking you are OWED anything because the hardcore fans aren't the ones responsible for the bulk of the box office sales and we certainly aren't the ones who are supporting Hasbro. The only thing the Hardcore fans did for this movie occured on the opening night showings. Everything after that was majority general public, i.e. parents and children. The fans just happened to be the mouthiest ones during all the after-opening-day interviews so that's who the press zeroed in on. All hype and no substance just like this thread.
Would some Mod please Lock this?? This ones DONE!
If Bay doesn't owe the fans anything, then why even make a movie based on Transformers? The whole point is to follow the previous, or at least the heart/main points, of the previous material. He does owe fans stuff, because they enjoy the material he chose to work with. When you use something other people think is important, you have to take into account that other people think its important. Its common courtesy. If he wanted to make his own thing, I mean COMPLETELY his own thing, why even name it Transformers? The number of nods to previous series can be counted on my hands: names, semi-truck, starscream is a jet, transform, Spike, from cybertron. That covers most of it.
You want a reboot where Unicron sucks up the planet while robots fight at random then the matrix appears at the end? That's what Bays first two movies were, my friend. A bunch of mindless fighting with a magic wrap up. BTW I showed the original to my 12 year old cousin. He liked it better, I kid you not, in his own words, because "I knew what was going on". But I'll guess you say the new ones were written for smarter people (guffaw!)
Hopefully Transformers will be like Batman and someone will pick it up and make it right after someone else tried to make it "xtreme"
